I just joined a CrossFit Box here and it's kicking my butt. A great workout. Always different and always challenging. :thumbsup2

Hi Plutolover!

I don't do Cross Fit but I came across this option when searching local gyms. I determined I was not fit enough to do it at this time. Their work outs look very intense in the sense you give it ALL each time. That get my Type A self a little overcharged and I forget of all the things I need to do in my life besides exercise!

Best of luck to you! :cheer2:

I know what you're saying. The CrossFit I go to is awesome. We had to go through a 4 class orientation (On-Ramp) program before we could participate in the WOD (Workout of the Day). We had to learn proper lifting techniques and other proper ways of doing things. One thing I noticed is that everyone is at different fitness levels and everything we do there can be scaled to your ability. In fact this is stressed. No one there wants you to get hurt. The philosophy is that it's better to do something than nothing at all. Or as I saw it on a CrossFit website "no one ever got any fitter staring at a barbell that was too heavy." So if you can only lift 15 lbs. it's better than NOT lifting 30.

I have a bad shoulder and have already modified some of the things like push-ups. In fact I can do them against the wall if I wanted. The only thing they don't want you to do is cheat. If you have to do 10 of something do 10, even if it takes you 3 times as long. You'll get stronger. :thumbsup2

I was thinking about doing CrossFit, but I hear they frown upon distance running, which I JUST started doing. Also, the box in my area is $175 a month so I know I would need to love it to make that commitment.

Are there people at all fitness levels that do it? Would the trainers make me stop marathon training?

I dunno. My nephew is a cross fit instructor and a 7 minute a mile runner. 4 short years ago, he would have been a perfect contestant for the biggest loser. I will say that at times you will have to decide what is more important but I find that one can work in both worlds.

And yes, there are folks from all levels. As a casual observer, you just do not see the modifications for the folks who are not fully capable. It is a great program but like all programs, it may not be for everyone. Sign up and give it 8 weeks. Then bail if it is not for you. But give it a full 8 weeks.

Wow, never heard of this, some of the "coaches" at my box run. In fact one is an Ironman(woman) Triathlete. There is even a CrossFit Endurance program that's geared to these kinds of athletes. My coach knows I may run the Disney Marathon in January and has offered to help me put a training plan together.

I love CrossFit! :thumbsup2 i have been doing it for aboot 2 years now. When I started I had to modify the majority of the workouts. The coaches will work with you and help you scale the workout to your ability. Crossfit has made a huge difference in my life and I am in the best shape ever and said buh-bye to 30 lbs. :)

I just started Cross Fit here in Idaho. I am a former college athlete so while I mentally feel like I know what to expect, but body is just aching right now. I had a baby 4.5 months ago and I am in the worst shape of my life. I am hoping that CF will help me get back in shape and reach my fitness goals.
