Just wondering if anyone has had problems wearing crocs while swimming or walking on the beach. Are water shoes better? We have a stingray encounter also, do they frown on wearing footwear in general?
I was planning on just taking crocs for my girls (3 & 5) on our cruise mainly because they already have a heap of them and we are not doing any specific excursions. But will be reading to see if there might be good reason to run out tomorrow and grab some water shoes for them
I prefer water shoes because they never slip off and are less obtrusive when you're swimming. I believe you can wear water shoes for the stingray adventure (which is so fun, by the way!), but I'm not sure about crocs.
We use our vibram five fingers at the Schlitterbahn waterpark and they are awesome. Way better than crocs. My issue with crocs is if you aren't standing on level ground when your feet are wet your feet will slide in them and I have actually gotten my big toe stuck in one of the holes in the front. I couldn't stop laughing.
I love crocs for walking. Love the cleo and the patra, but I wouldn't recommend them for swimming because they REALLY float and make walking in water difficult.

Water shoes are on my list for our next cruise. Crocs are uncomfortable if they are too wet and not only do they float but they are also big enough to be too awkward in the water.
crocs don't work well in the sand, too floppy & they can be dangerous on wet surfaces even if tread is just slightly worn
water shoes can be purchased inexpensively and they are permitted in waterparks & pools. Unless there's a strong current and i'm going to wear flippers i wear them when snorkling or when beach is rocky (many places in cozumel) while swimming.
If you want to wear them in the water I highly recommend water shoes...if you dont like the bulk of the water shoes...get "fin socks"...they are usually 2mm and ankle cut. Good prices on Amazon.com for those. They are normally used by snorkelers and scuba divers to protect their feet from the fin strap rubbing on the back of their feet.
