Get a locking lid! I love using mine for potlucks, bbq's etc school and team functions now. The locking lid is awesome!
Here's mine. Love it. It was highly recommended on a cooking blog I follow.

I love the locking lid and the adjustable cooking by temp or time. My old one just did high and low. It also has a prong if you want to so a ham or chicken. You can set the desired internal temp, insert the prong and it will finish cooking at the right temp.
I have a Hamilton Beach crockpot that I got last month at Costco for $30 on sale from $45. It is a six quart crock pot and holds a lot. The best thing about this crockpot is that you can take the insert out and use it on a stovetop to brown ground beef, heat something up quickly and then keep warm, etc. being able to use it on the stove top cuts down on messes. I recently made a batch of soup for my daughters school in it. I made it the night before in the crock on the stovetop, refrigerated it overnight, then warmed it up on the stovetop. Took it to the school and plugged it in and set it at low to keep it warm. Cannot say enough good things about this crockpot!

I got this as a Xmas present (I've seen it cheaper than Amazon): http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-Cook-Central-Multi-Cooker-7-Quart/dp/B0053WRWX8
It's certainly not cheap, but it's amazing. It's a slow cooker, roaster, steamer, and you can brown things in it. I swear it does everything but my laundry.
What I really LOVE is the Ninja Cooking System that I bought recently. There's an infomercial on TV, but it can be bought at Kohl's, Walmart, Target, Bed Bath Beyond, Home Depot, etc. The best deal is buying it at Kohl's when they have 30% off. (Around $110) It's a combination slow cooker, stove top cooker, and oven. So, you can sear your meat right in the appliance, and then use the slow cooker for the rest of the process. You can also bake desserts, roast meat, boil, sear, etc. I recently relegated my slow cooker to the basement shelf, and the Ninja Cooking System lives on the kitchen counter now.
Got to agree with these two ladies and confuse you a bit more.A third version of the above is the Wolfgang Puck 6 qt. Versacooker which also sears, slow cooks, roasts, bakes, etc. (I've also put my "regular" crockpot into the back corner, as it's so much less trouble to brown and slow cook in one pot.)
It's currently sold out on HSN, but was usually going for around $90/free shipping when available.
Bigger is not necessarily better. Slow cookers work most efficiently when they're no less than half and no more then 2/3 full. Most folks do fine with the standard 4 qt slowcooker for about $20.
