Crockpot, controversial, HOW???

:stir: This is me mixing up chili in my crockpot to leave cooking in my All Stars Resort room while we tour the parks! :lmao:

It would never have occured to me in a hundred years to bring a crock pot on vacation. Apparently I need more imagination... I do, however, bring the coffee and filters for the coffee pot.

:stir: If my crock pot isn't ok, how about my Coleman stove and the propane to run it? :)

For all the crockpot users: Do everyone a favor and leave the sauerkraut at home!!! :rotfl: I remember a long ago post about someone being next to a room or in a room the day after someone cooked sauerkraut.

I think we've had just about everything on the boards concerning bringing food. Everything from guests eating canned corn in the MK to crockpots and George Foremans in their rooms.

I remember one hilarious thread on the DIS that made fun of the "crockpot on vacation". One poster described all of the steps necessary to cook breakfast on the engine of his truck. Another poster described cooking in the hotel room bathtub.

If I drank coffee, it would've been spewed all over my computer monitor!

My vacation requirements are (1) little to no cooking and (2) little to no cleaning. DH will occasionally say that we should rent a cabin on a lake in NH for a vacation (he remembers having fun doing that with his family when he was 10-12 years old). :rotfl2: I can cook, clean, and take care of the kids (2 & 5) at home for a lot less money.

What about all those dorm room tricks?

Like grilling cheese sandwiches with an iron.

Or using coffee pot water for ramen noodles.

I think I might pack my microwave...gotta go put that on the packing list.

Interesting thread, I personally would have never thought of it.
Although at work, the Department next to mine has a monthly potluck,
in which everyone brings in a certain part of the meal - appetizer, side dish, dessert etc. and they all share at lunchtime.
A few months ago, someone brought in a crockpot, and several people brought in ingredients. They prepared it in the kitchen in the morning, and by luchtime, they had a meal... they did get in trouble by the facilities manager - she said it was a fire hazzard.

About that fire hazard thing...

I once was reading Quick Cooking magazine. There was a letter to the editor from a fireman showing his appreciation for crockpot recipes.

He said that his fire station kitchen was designed to shut down when their alarm system sounded to alert them for an emergency. It was a pain to be cooking a dinner for the whole crew only to have the range shut off.
When they came back from the emergency call, they would be starving but only have a cold, half cooked meal.
Their solution? A crockpot! Plugged in appliances were not shut off. Therefore, they were thrilled to come in ready to eat, and have a nice hot dinner waiting for them.

Ironic, huh?

You all should come visit the pool hopping thread....we have all made special plans to cook in our rooms, pool hop and save money. Beanee Weenees being my speciality. Oh, and the conga ;)

If you go to some of the really really hardcore budget sites, NOT THE DIS, you will see people suggesting you bring your own crockpot, george foreman grill, microwave and toasters to save money. People encourage each other about how wonderful it is to have homecooked meals to come back to after a long day at the park. .

I've read all those things ON THE DIS.

I know people love to stay onsite and this is a way to compromise and try to have the best of both worlds, but it would be so much safer and better to simply get a condo for the week if someone plans to make meals.

Is this the thread you're talking about? I laughed my way through that one! :lmao:

I'll make sure to bring you some lemonade from my bathtub in your own refillable mug. Oh and can I bring all my friends with me? :stir: This is me helping to cook the Beenie Weenies. Woo Hoo!!

Oh good I was going to invite them too! Things have been slow this weekend maybe we need some "new blood".

we brought a steamer once because I was trying to eat healthy and thought id use it to steam some sweet potatos
I was too full of disney food by the time we got back to the room to even think about those sweet potatos.

Yes, bring all the friends you want, the hunting parties could use some help. Those darned pool hopping ducks keep getting away from me.

the last thing I want to come back to is something in a crockpot that must be washed in a bathtub.

I'm not encouraging anyone to cook in their room but
They have crockpot LINERS now so you wouldn't have to wash it.....

was it this board last year where someone said they brought a SNO-CONE maker with them to their room?

We still joke about that one -- we had a sno-cone maker when we were kids and the little bottles of red goo and blue goo that you could drizzle all over the top..made such a mess. I cannot imagine one in a hotel room.

Poor mousekeepers.

OMG, you gotta be kidding me. There are folks on these forums that really bewilder me sometimes. I bring an electric skillet with me to cook breakfast in our room every morning. It saves us time and money and gets us off to a great start everyday. If someone REALLY has a problem with this, guess what, it's your problem, I really don't care. What the hell is it to you what I do in my room?

Don't waste space bringing your skillet....that's what the hot pad of the coffee maker is for. :rotfl2:

Seriously, I think what people do complain about is the smell of the cooking and the fire hazard. I do believe that Disney has rules agaisnt some appliances in the rooms.

Sending you some pixiedust: seems like the subject is a little stressful for you.
