I have been reading all the great meal ideas for the crock pot at disney and have a question. Could I use the crock pot on a timer? Some of the recipes like the honey chicken say 5 hours and we are normaly gone longer than that durring the day.
Could all the stuff be put in the pot and then set the timer so it would be just finishing as we return to the camper?

Our crock pot has a timer built in and turns it to warm after the time you set.

I do this all the time. If you do not have a crockpot with a built in timer then just by one that you can set from the socket like for Christmas lights.

I just bought a timer to use with my crockpot as we leave by 8:30 AM and are not home for dinner until 6 PM, making any recipe that needs 6-8 hours overcooked.

Because I have only High, Low and Off, I will need to keep everything very cold in the stoneware insert before leaving, then put it in the pot and set the timer to turn on after about 1.5 hours or so. I'm hoping this will work for us.

I guess for those of you with a timer built in, it cooks and then turns to warm, right? So the stuff doesn't overcook? I might have to think about getting a new one.

We used to have one that went to warm after so many hours and I loved it. Wore it out and ended up with one that does not do that.

I would feel better about that than leaving food setting in one waitng to start cooking.
