hey, my first post on the craft board!:cool1:
anyway, i am a new crocheter (is that a word) and would like to make a little mickey head, kinda like the little flowers i just learned how to make. any ideas? patterns? tutorials? your help is much appreciated!!:goodvibes

Welcome!

I have very basic crochet skills and I have made lots of little Mickeys & Minnies. Very simple...I actually don't use a pattern..just sort of made it up!
Can you crochet a circle? ..If not I can sit down tomorrow and figure out how to write what I do...lol:rotfl: Basically I just crochet 1 larger circle and then two little circles and then sew them together with the same color thread.. For a Minnie I tie a bow out of ribbon then sew it between her ears..does that help at all? Kind of vague, I know. If you need more specific info let me know and I will take a couple of pics of some and write down how I did it in terms of stiches. :)

thank you so much Chocovrdmicears!! i can do a circle, like in a flower if that's what you mean. so i kinda see what you are saying. i would just half to figure out how to make them the right sizes (ears smaller than head). thanks so much for the help!! i'm so excited about being able to crochet! never thought i'd be able to learn so quickly, especially being lefthanded:thumbsup2
i wanted to learn in order to make crochet jewelry (i'm addicted to making jewelry) but now i want to make everything!! sorry for the long post, but i think i've found a new obsession!:yay:

sorry, forgot in my excitement to ask if you had any pics? how many rounds do you do for the ears compared to the head? thanks again, i am such a newbie at this!

I figured I'd jump in here, as I'm laid up with a lame ankle and I'm bored. :rolleyes1

I'd say experiment a little bit with the yarn you'd like to use. Worsted weight and a bigger hook is going to give you a bigger Mickey head than crochet thread and a size 7, for example.

I experimented with Red Heart super saver yarn (not a super fancy yarn, but it's good for experimenting with) and a size K hook (really a very large size hook for the project, but it's a long story). I made a circle for the head by doing ten double crochets in a round, then in the next row do two double crochets in every double crochet of the previous round. For the ears, just repeat row one, then attach them to the head. This gave me a Mickey head that was roughly three inches across, not counting ears. It works up very quickly, and you can certainly experiment to see what you like best.

:flower3: thank you so much for your help, blackunicorn! i think i'll try that tonight with some yarn i have left over from a project. you made it very clear and easy to follow for a newbie!

Let me know how it goes! Not only am I laid up, but my husband's housecleaning has caused my hooks to disappear. :sad1: So I'm living vicariously through you!

oh no! no hooks? well, i finished the hat i want to put it on, so now on to the mickey head! i made a flapperish cloche hat with a pattern i found online and they use a flower on the side, but i thought i'd be different and use mickey instead! i'm so happy with the hat because it is the first real pattern i've followed (abbreviations) and it turned out fine! if i can figure out how to post pics here, i'll show you the finished project. hope your ankle feels better! oh, and thanks again for the help!:flower3:

Oh my gosh, that hat sounds like it will be so cute! Definitely post pictures! I hope you don't take offense if I decide to copy you!

I did (finally) find my hooks, in a safe place. (That's always where my stuff disappears to!) My ankle is doing better every day, thank you. It's just slow going! I'm sure I'll be up and about any day now...that's what I keep telling myself! ;)
