DD(11) - likes scary rides like her Dad, fav characters: Eeyore, Stitch
DS(4) - likes Cars ride, Flying Carpets, It's A Small World, Buzz Lightyear Laser Blast, fav characters: Lightning McQueen, Mater, Buzz Lightyear, Chicken Little, Stitch, Mrs Incredible (not so keen on Mr. for some reason)

Sunday, 9th March 2008

Our Ryanair flight from Prestwick arrived at Beauvais shortly after 9am. BS Transports driver was waiting for us in arrivals area to take us to DLRP. We arrived at the DLH before 11am, where our luggage was immediately taken care of without us having to take it into the hotel ourselves (very impressed with level of service at the DLH). We collected park passes from DLH reception (didn't need to wait more than a couple of minutes before being attended to). We then went straight to Salon Mickey for a quick snack of croissants & hot chocolate/coffee.

We decided to go into the WDS park first as we were wanting to do the Studio Tram Tour & today was the only day it was on during our 4 day stay. We queued about 20mins for it, it was definitely the longest we queued for anything during this trip, for quite a lot of rides waiting time was just a couple of minutes or it was just a walk on. We spent quite a bit more time in the WDS park this trip than we had done in previous years. We all really enjoyed the Studio Tram Tour especially the parts with the oil tanker going on fire & all the water pouring down the canyon & also the scene with the London bus & train, it was the first time we had been on it, somehow we had never got round to it on previous trips. We had a look round WDS, then noticed the Disney Cinema parade had just started so we watched that.

At 2pm we headed over to the Tower of Terror & made use of the fastpasses you get with staying at the DLH. My daughter (age 11) & her Dad did ride the Tower of Terror lift and strange people that they are they both thought it was great!! Myself & my son (age 4) didn't go on it, we saw round the foyer area & the library - which l think is worth seeing, then we went out the "chicken" exit - l checked twice that there definitely was such an exit. :scared1: I've read the DLRP version of ToT is scarier or better depending on how you look at it. My husband thinks it's better than the WDW version.

After a look round the ToT shop & collecting the TOT photo of DH & Louise we headed back over to the DLH to collect our room keys, stopping on the way for a look at our paving stone at Fantasia Gardens.

At the hotel there was no long queue to wait in, there was just a couple of people in front of me. I was impressed with how efficient & very helpful the CM at the DLH always were. The room we were allocated was in the west wing of the hotel on the ground floor, it had it's own small private patio area (which would be nice in the summer, but we didn't really make use of it as it was too cold outside). Our room was also very near the swimming pool, games arcade & Minnie's playroom (4 interconnecting playrooms) which my 4 year old son loved.

Our room was really well located for getting to/from the park, within literally one minutes walk we were in Salon Mickey/in the park, it took us about a 5 minute walk in the hotel to get to breakfast, not that we minded, it's a lovely hotel to walk through.

Once we were settled into our room l decided to go into the park for a walk along Main St. DH, DD & DS opted to stay put at the hotel. I love walking along Main St, looking at the shop window displays & gazing at the castle. :cloud9:

At 6:30pm we went to Inventions for dinner - the food was lovely (my DD especially loved the chocolate fountain) and we found the staff to be friendly and very helpful. Our table had a nice view of the Castle. The interaction with the Disney characters was great too (l think we saw about 8 characters during the time we were dining.)

After we finished dinner we went into the park, as it was EMH the park was open until 9pm. We went on Peter Pan & Dumbo - both hardly had any queue. It was nearly 9pm and getting dark by then, there was very few people in the park apart from some CM. It was really nice seeing the Castle lit up at night - this was the first time we had ever seen it like that. We walked through Fantasyland, DD got a giggling Minnie & DS chose a dalmatian soft toy in a shop there, which he decided to call Sugar for some reason. :confused3 We then walked through the castle arch & down Main Street. When we got to Main Street Station we saw Mickey waving bye to everyone leaving the park.

Just as we were leaving the park my DD was walking on a low wall, DS(4) turned to her and said "get down, Mickey will be cross" :rotfl2:

Once back at the hotel we went to the games arcade - DS had a ride in a fire truck, using a token l had left over from our stay last year at the Sequoia Lodge, we then went to the hotel's Club Minnie playroom. Then off to bed. It had been a great first day. :thumbsup2

DS planning for the next day! :)

Fabulous start to your holiday, love the picture of your son planning his next day, was he a good planner?
Looking forward to your next installment.

It was quite funny as he was studying the map and looked quite serious - he said he was wanting to go on the Cars ride, then l noticed he was looking at the map for the main park rather than the WDS one.

Sounds like you had a great 1st day.

We always wondered about how to get to DLP from Beauvais and didn't think of prvate shuttle.

Looking forward to reading the next installment :)

Awww that was a great first day! Love the photos. Really good character interaction too, makes it so special. Thats so cool with the paving stone. We were looking at those when we were there back in December but didnt really know what they were for lol. I've never heard about them.

My cousin is going to DLRP next week - flying into Beauvais - and she says there is now a bus that you can book that transfers you between Beauvais & DLRP. Until she mentioned it l hadn't heard of it. For a family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children) it works out at 80 euros (return) cheaper than using the private transfer like we did. I'll need to look into it for next time we go back.

Thanks. For a cheap Ryanair deal this might be worth looking at in the future :)

Sounds like you had a fab first day and a wonderful trip - can't wait to read more.

Sounds like you had a great trip. Didn't realise that EMH were on in the evening, thought it was only mornings?

Sounds like a great start to your trip Mary Ellen:goodvibes

DS looks very concentrated on his task in the last picture :rotfl: and the Minnie playroom looks lovely.:thumbsup2

We had one of those rooms with the patio near the swimming pool when we went for Xmas 06 and it was great. Having been to DLH before, we'd decided where we'd like our room and sent them a nice fax in the week before requesting a room there if it was at all possible. They were happy to oblige so I'd do that again, but next time we're splashing out for my birthday and staying in Castle Club - can't wait.

Great start of your trip! Lovely photos!

Look forward to Day 2!:cheer2:

Lovely to read your report Mary-Ellen. it sounds like you had a lovely trip and the Disneyland Hotel sounds amazing. Louise was very brave to ride the Tower of Terror - I would have been looking for the chicken exit too! I love the photo of John reading the map! :goodvibes

By the way, Easyjet fly to Charles De Gaulle from Glasgow now, my girlfriend and I got a return flight to there for the second of June for £150 return total. Not bad, especially if you're staying in the center of Paris.
