Critique - Path to Yellowstone Lake (Constructive Criticism Welcome)

A good photograph is often one that evokes emotion. Yours must be a good one because it makes me miss Montana. Hope to make it back to Helena before summer is over.

Awww...thanks...just make it to Helena before the fires start so you can enjoy your trip.

My suggestions. You have two really good pictures in that one shot, IMO.

I'm haven't been into photography very long, but I like your pictures. The first one is a good lake with mountain shot.

Then, you suggested you were hoping to capture the contrast in grass colors to the lake. Your whole picture, IMO, was too much of a good thing.
There was too much grass.

My first crop attempt:

You have green in the bottom of your picture and then green near the lake. I cropped off the bottom part so you get the rich hues of the grass first.

Second crop attempt:

Having the trail off center kind of adds to the composition IMO. The trees are nice, but they really belong to the upper panorama, not the grass. Here, you have, two shades of grass and two shades of blue.

I like having the mountains hazy. It shows distance and it shows that while they are pretty, this isn't a mountain photo.
