Critique My Dining Plans Please? :)

we have always strayed from sci-fi mainly bc of the seating arrangement. With teens it may would be neat, but dinner is our time to unwind and talk about the day and enjoy family time.

This! I love, love, love Sci Fi, but solely for lunch (Fries and a shake really). Dinner is all about recapping our day thus far.

We've done all but Maya Grill.

On MK day, I would go to a resort for dinner. We love Ohana for both breakfast and dinner. My kids are huge Stitch fans, so we have breakfast here every trip. (I like 1900 Park Fare, too - but you listed that as being done).

I'll also mention that I much prefer the LTT lunch to their dinner. It is not plated, so the selection is better.

At HS, Prime Time is our favorite by far. My kids don't like the atmosphere at Sci Fi. I was surprised because my DS likes cars. Apparently, he was disapointed that the cars don't actually move. He thought they would be moving like at Garden Grill.

I'll also tell you my kids favorite restaurants in all of WDW. DS like Garden Grill in Epcot (DD lists it 2nd). DD's favorite is Mickey's Backyard BBQ.

wow! Thanks great information - this will definitely help!!

I would do Tusker House in AK instead of Yak and Yeti. Tusker House breakfast is amazing and it is a character meal.

Thanks! We did Tusker House last trip - but not for Breakfast, so that is something to consider - do they have an EARLY ADR that gets you into the park before opening like at CP?

You could also try LTT at lunch and the menu has more offerings than the family style at dinner. We've decided on this for this trip. Definitely do H&V. Our kids loved it and this time we are trying lunch there versus breakfast as I feel there is a huge advantage to doing rope drop at HS.

Great thanks so much! LTT was originally on the list for that MK day but then I wasn't sure - I am definitely doing H&V for lunch - I think that the kids will love that

I like Mama Melrose :) I am just eh with Sci-Fi. It was a cool experience but the food was not good at all (this was years ago though). We had a friend just get back with a 1st grade boy and a 5 yo girl and they both hated Sci-Fi, they thought it was scary. I really like the lunch at Hollywood and Vine, I actually ate too much :) We only did 2 character meals and that was fine. (H+V and Crystal Palace). Good luck and have fun!

Thanks - I am uncertain about SciFi for the scary factor as well - and also the menu doesn't appeal to me as much as PT but the kids would like either menu so that doesn't matter - just not sure if it something that the kids will think is fun or scary....:confused3

My kids LOVE Hollywood and Vine. The food is pretty mediocre but you can't beat dancing with the characters :) I would do Chef Mickeys or Ohana breakfast on your rest day since you aren't doing ag character meal with Mickey yet. CM is my favorite but Ohana has great food. One is buffet and one is family style so depends on your preference.

Thanks - I hadn't realized we had no Mickey character meal, lol - argh the planning! pirate:

Depending on what hours AK is open, I might not do Yak & Yeti for dinner. I remember when we went in January a few years ago, AK closed at 5pm. We went to Yak & Yeti for lunch, but I later wished we hadn’t since the hours that AK was open were so short, and there was so much I wanted to do there.

Side note: looks like I am going the week after you. I need to start figuring out my dining plan as well!

haha - that's true - but we are doing a day and a half in AK so we might be ok there - but now that you say it, it might make more sense to not waste time eating there - and then we could head to another park for dinner that night - like EPCOT, lol

I think you are a little light on character meals with young kids so I would do 'Ohana for breakfast instead of dinner. I would also switch Mama Melrose which I was not at all impressed with to the Sci Fi which is fun for kids.

We did O'Hana breakfast and dinner on our last trip bc we stayed at Poly. We enjoyed both. Dinner had no characters but still had entertainment for the kids (think Hawaiian conga line) and we liked the food at dinner. It is nice that it is all served family style. With young kids we try to limit table service and go for faster buffet and family style to keep the kids happier and more content.

We did eat at Mama Melrose and I thought the food was good but service is slowwwww... I would not cross it off your list though if I are you because you can book the fantastic package (pretty sure we did it as part if our meal plan). You get tickets for a reserved area and the seats we had were really up close which was great though hot at time when the flames flared up! We got the desserts to go (maybe try doing that to speed things up).

We always like Tusker House too. Lunch has characters and the buffet is pretty good for disney food.

You could check out rain forest cafe in AK. I think they have late ressies and seems you are looking for that feature.
