Day Three (Castaway Cay):

I woke up while it was still dark. Not wanting to wake up the family and knowing I wasn’t getting back to sleep, I pulled on last nights clothes and a baseball cap to hide my bedhead, grabbed my book (Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister – a good book, btw), and headed up to deck to await sunrise. The sun took a good hour to get from starting to light up the horizon to getting itself in the sky. At one point the sky was pink and Disney had managed to put a hidden Mickey in the clouds. (Boy, they are good).

DD woke up to the crankys. Too many late nights and early mornings and too much sun had her in a lousy mood and not feeling her best. It took us a while to get moving that day. We ended up having contential breakfast in the room – rolls from Deck 9 by the beverage station.

We had swim vests along for the kids – which were great for both Castaway Cay and the Goofy pool (my kids are very beginning swimmers – neither of them swims in water over their heads – but they both love bobbing in swim vests). With my daughter in her mood – and wanting to limit her direct sun, we rearranged out plans for the day. I’d been planning on getting out early (we still did), putting the kids in Scuttles Cove while DH and I snorkled. Then letting the kids enjoy the beach before lunch. Maybe putting them back in Scuttles after lunch while we checked out the adult beach. We still got to the beach early enough to grab chairs a row back and still before Cookie’s. But we let the kids play in the sand and the water (in their life vests) while we took turns snorkeling. Snorkeling, btw, is hard work. It was a long swim out to find Mickey and a long swim back. I’m in less than great shape and a little claustrophobic with the mask on. My husband has a moustache and didn’t get a tight seal on his mask. But we are both glad we did it. We both saw fish and had a good time. Then had the earliest lunch possible, sat in the sun (DD kind of napped while the rest of the family chatted and hubby and I drank BBCs – which are REALLY good - and were back on the boat by 1:00. The Cay really was wonderful and beautiful – but we aren’t big beach people.

The kids weren’t done swimming yet, and hopped into the Goofy Pool – very uncrowded as most folks were on the Cay. We then went to the matinee of Golden Mickey’s. I recommend the matinee for anyone with kids with early bedtimes – my son wouldn’t have made it through the late show. The kids were back in the kids clubs for dinner, while we dressed up for Tritons. This turned out to be a slight tactical error, as when we picked up my daughter I was still dressed up and she’d missed out on the fancy dinner. So the next day we dressed for lunch at Tritons. Dinner was the fried camembert (my husband enjoyed it more than I did), the baby greens, and a great tenderloin. I had the Grand Marnier Soufflé for dessert and can highly recommend it. We picked up my son to see an illusionist down at Wavebands (he’s into magic). Then we picked up my daughter and had an early bedtime.

I am enjoying your trip reports, Reliving our December trip. Gotta love those BBC's
