Crinolines & Hoop Skirts

Another help where can I find...

I want to attempt to dye my crinoline blue, but I'm not sure what to buy. I have a pretty big dress and want a hoop to keep some of the weight (and heat) off of my legs. I want a 2 or 3 hoop with some tulle layers overtop. For those who bought online, where did you buy your crinoline from and was it like this?? Looking for the perfect dyable piece. I'm also short (5'2) so not sure about length?? Not sure if my mom is going to crack and actually let me dye in her machine, but we'll see. If I find one, I can always just wear it white...even if the dress is ivory??

Are you getting a crinoline OR a hoop skirt? From my research there seems to be a significant difference. I'm still undecided about what I'm goint to get. The crinoline gets it's effect with many layers of tulle netting and satin. The hoop skirt has just satin, but with 3 or 4 rings around the circumference of the skirt. The pros and cons I've heard are that the hoop skirt is much more comfortable in hot weather, but the crinoline is more comfortable to sit in. I don't know which one to get, but I'm leaning toward the hoop skirt.

As for dying it. I would think the hoop skirt would be easier to dye because it has a lot less material, and the hoops are removable. But since it usually doesn't show under the dress, I don't know if it would be worthwhile.

i bought my hoops and crinnie from angels bridal on ebay. they're great and the cheapest around. if you want a shorter one, get a kids size. i'm 5'9" and got the regular length and it was really long on me...i had to have my mom cut the extra tulle out of the hoop on the day of my wedding before we left the garden suite!

I'm so confused. The one at the bridal store is super expensive. It's a hoop with a little crinoline around the bottom. I always thought you needed a little of the tulle to soften over the bumps the hoop makes...but none of the ones I've seen online seem to have it??

Since Caryn has mailed me her crinnie and hoop I'll answer this. Yes, she did have one of each, no they didn't attach together. First she put the hoop on and then the crinnie. She also took out the first two hoops, so that only the bottom hoop was on (the hoop was only used to keep all of that fabric off of her legs) I tried both on yesterday and it was easier for me to put the hoop on the floor, put the crinnie over it and step in and then fasten myself. I think that's the only way to not have them bunching up (which is a problem Caryn had on wedding day).
It's really cute to see a flash of color every now and then and your photog can get great pics!!
I think Caryn posted the directions about dying them in her PJ.
