Has anybody ever heard of any crimes being reported at WDW? It seems like I have never heard of any.(Except of course, price gouging, but that's a whole nother story.;) ) I just wondered if Disney managed to cover up any news of crime, or if it just didn't happen?

I have not only heard about crime at WDW, but I have heard that WDW is uncooperative with the local police who investigate the incidents. I read an article several years ago which indicated that victims are discouraged from contacting the police and the preference is for WDW security to handle crimes that occur "in the world". I will google to see if I can find that article to see if I can be more specific.

Didn't some guy hold hostages (or ex GF) at a resort one day

The book, The Mouse Betrayed, highlights the problems of crime, coverup and pedophelia at WDW.

The hostage situation occurred in 2000 when we were visiting during end of June. We first heard about it while shopping at DTD. From what I remember, it was kept out of most of the print papers until much later....was a domestic hostage situation and no one was injured. I'm sketchy on the details because we don't really read or listen to the news much when we're on vacation.

As far as crime, I suppose it could happen at WDW. Always make sure you are taking care of your valuables and keep wallets, etc. close to you (ie. on a fanny pack). I would think they would have a worse problem with shoplifting than anything else.

WDW ON JUNE 24::yes:: :earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsboy: :earsgirl:

I think crime happens there as anywhere, nothing special about it. I would think the majority being theft of various types. And I have heard that the folks at WDW are very cooperative with authorities in trying to prosecute it.

It was at the Boardwalk, and it was a domestic thing.

I remember some years ago, some people faked getting beat up and robbed at CBR, then sued Disney. Then it was uncovered they faked the whole thing. If I remember correctly, some girl had her brother ( ) beat her up, then they said strangers did it, then they sued Disney. There was a story about it on Dateline or one of those kind of news shows.

That is so sad and depressing. How anyone could make up stories to get attention and/or money amazes me.

Apparently setting up a tarot stand on Main Street USA is a crime. Who would have known?

I sure didn't! HEY I am STILL waiting for that $5 million dollars to fall from the sky like you said would happen!

Miss Cleo, there is a tarot stand on Boardwalk. They can't your competition now can they?;)
