I found directions to use a 5" or 9" wide Xyron Repositionable refill to restick your Cricut mats...

But then I remembered I had the 1.5" Xyron tape, and it was the repositionable too!

So I started putting that down on my nicely cleaned, with soap and water, and allowed to air dry, Mat.

I took apart the Xyron cartridge, the cellopane part away from the paper backing part, and also just leaving it all on the cartridge.

I did not tape off the edges as the 1.5" was easy to work with.

I also could just use a pair of siccors to cut the 1.5" as I ended each strip on the mat.

It took 8 strips of the 1.5" wide. I placed all 8 strips on the mat before I removed the backing.

when removing the backing from the mat, if the glue came off with the paper, I just pressed it back onto the mat as best I could.

there is 20 feet of tape on the 1.5" wide cartridge... so I could restick two mats for the price of the replacement cartridge (about $2.50-$3.00? w/ coupon)

I didn't try to refeed the paper with the glue or the cellopane back into the cartridge to make it work the Xyron again.

When finished lifting the paper backing, I pressed my hands all over the mat to remove some of the stickiness as I would with any new mat or re-glue.

And then I proceeded to cut out about 5 images/text.

It worked just like the original mat... not too sticky, and I didn't have any glue balls either. :thumbsup2

so I think we have a winner! :cool1:

Any questions, please ask!

I have been using this mat since Sept, and it is still holding strong.

I also have a second mat that I resticky-ed, and it too is just as new.

I use the Zig two way glue (the one with the wide tip) to re-sticky my mat. Works great and is easier than the sprays. Cover the whole mat with the glue, let dry, then use!

Just tried this with two of my mats, the tape went on easy. I will be using the mats tomorrow and will see how they work. Thank you for sharing.

Cassey -
How did this work out for you?

I really like my mats that I restuck with the Xyron.

I have recently bought 2 new mats, and after a crop weekend, I am thinking they need to be restuck already.

I have been using one of the mats since Feb 19 and it is great. Works like new, I haven't tried to rinse it yet as it had not needed it, not finding paper fiber sticking to the adhesive as much. I have found that a new mat will last about a month or so before I need to start a new one. I use them heavily so I can't wait to see how long this lasts. Thank you for a great tip.

I've been using one of my original mats since 2008. I spray it with quilters spray occasionally, and even though it has a crack in it, it actually works better than some of my newer mats.

Cleaning my closet today, I found my old BIG Xyron 1200....and 4 different boxes of refills. :goodvibes Looks like I found a use for one of them. Other stuff may end up in yardsale as I never use it anymore.

I just started using the two way glue and wish I would have started sooner. I almost think they work better than new mats.
