Cricut machine differences?

I have the original Cricut, a gypsy and an Expression. I intended to sell my baby bug when I got the E but then thought I'd keep it to use for crops. I can't get my Gypsy to work with it for the life of me.

The think I love about the E that I didn't like about the original machine is the variation in sizes you can cut. The original has a wheel that lets you dial your size. You can't cut any smaller than a half inch and the sizes go up in half inch increments to 5.5". It's pretty limiting.

With SCAL, I don't have it but I want it. Do you need DS for it to work? Also, it means you can cut any true type font you have installed on your PC, right?

you do not need to have a paid version of DS. You only need the free trial version of DS to update your Cricut's firmware, if your Cricut is out of date with the SCAL versions. You can cut any true type of font, plus most any image you find on line can be converted (some images are easier than others). And there are lots of sites for free svg files. And the forum at SCAL is the best and the members are willing to share all their talents.

With the cost of SCAL being $60-75, it sure beats buying carts that have images I don't even want.

I totally agree with you. Provo Craft is going insane with releasing new cartridges and most of them are images, as opposed to fonts, and I'm seeing a lot of duplication. I think I may get the rest of the Disney carts that are out there and ask for SCAL for Christmas this year.

I wanted SCAL so bad right before Eclipse came out in theaters because I was making freezer paper shirts for my friends and it would have been so much easier to cut with my Cricut instead of an Xacto knife!

I think it's going to be SCAL for my birthday at the end of the month and maybe the "E" for Christmas!

I got the Baby Bug, The "E", The Gypsy and Design Studio.

I haven't touch the baby bug since getting the "E". I got the gyspy for Christmas and leave it pretty much hooked up to my "E". I hardly ever have to take out a cart. I do almost everything on the gyspy and just cut it out with the E.

Features I love on the E (before gyspy LOL)
the flip button

if you are like me and make favors or things for school it's nice to hit the qantity button and not worry about counting

there's other buttons that I liked just can't remember them since i haven't used them since getting the gyspy. :o)

loving the fact I can make things larger than I was able too with the baby bug.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the fact that I can make nice size gift bags and boxes

my mom got the "E" at Walmart on Black Friday last year for $188.00.
it came in black, red, blue and green with 2 carts (Plantin Schoolbook and Cricut Solution).

Maybe they will have the smae sale this year at walmart :)

I ordered the Gypsy with my CM discount a couple of weeks ago and am anxiously awaiting its arrival! I am so excited because I tote my E around to crops and workshops and now I won't have to pack the cartidges! I don't have them in the original boxes anymore, so it's not that they're bulky, but it's just one more thing to remember and keep track of at a crop, where everyone is using different carts. I'll definitely report back once I've received it and have some time to play with it!

If you have CDS loaded on your computer, do you have to have the cartridges to cut, or do you just plug in your computer like you would a Gypsy?

Also does CDS work with both the Create and Expression? Can you purchase cartridges online to download into your computer without physically buying the cartridge?

You have to have the cartridges to cut if you use CDS. It works with all the machines, I think, except the new Imagine. I *think* they are working toward being able to download a cartridge, but that hasn't happened yet.

I hear an E is in my future so my cricut and carts are moving to MomE's scrapping room. I have a G which I love, having that enabled me to bring it to SDV and not have to worry about transportating all my carts. The zoom feature is terrific when one has "progressive" eyes. ;):lmao:

I am brand new to scrapbooking and have been eyeing the cricut. I got to try one at a crop but wasn't impressed. Maybe she didn't have great cartridges?

Anyway I just watched a video about the gypy. It wasn't too clear. Do you have to draw and design stuff yourself or are there premaid images? I'm not an artist, I can't even draw a decent stick figure!:lmao: What am I missing and can you convince me I need a cricut? I feel like I'm missing out on something.
