ok, so after having my cricut for almost a YEAR and never taken it out of the box, i decided today's the day!

WELL let me tell ya.....i'm a visual learner. i'm trying to cut the mickey hands as a border and are they supposed to have the little cut outs on top of his hand?????? 'cause if they are, i can't figure out how to do it.

i as so cricut dumb!!!!!

i must tell ya all that i'm not lovin' it!

somebody please tell me what i'm doing wrong!!!! please!!!!!

Sorry, hit the submit button too soon. What you did was the icon border (a base). Stay in icon border mode, press the shift key, then try it again. When you look at the squares in the manual, the lower left pic is w/o shift, and the upper right is with the shift. Make sense?

yes it does make sense! thank you so much.

i guess i just have to play around with it to get used to it.

i can't even imagine making a full color mickey!!! really!!!

i love my sizzix. put the die on top of the paper pull down the handle, and presto!

Yes, it does take some getting used to. The Mickey and Friends cart is one I simply can't use without the manual at my side. I have to check and double check before I cut. I had to go get it so I understood your question and could tell you what to do to get the cut you want. Once you get used to it, it is a lot of fun. Some of the M&F shapes are easier than others. Mickeys aren't usually too bad. Chip and Dale were tough, though. Enjoy the Cricut.

Hey happycampers do you talk the directions out while you are working.. My kids laugh at me because I read the directions quietly and as I'm pushing the various buttons I say the directions out loud!

well i'm done with the cricut for today! thank god that dh is so very patient with me. he sat down with me and we talk the instructions out. the we went to michael's and i bought the kit with the spatula thingy to get it off the mat.
now am i crazy or did i read somewhere on here that i should be doing something to the mat to keep it sticky????

thanks again happy campers for your help!

The mats do wear out and stop being sticky after a bit. There are several ways to get a little more life out of your mat. I wash them off in the sink and then spray them very lightly with spray adhesive. Cricut does say this could violate your warrenty, but I guess I like to live dangerously! :rotfl:

I'm glad you finally took your Cricut out. Good for you! Just keep at it and you'll get the hang of it.

Bout time you opened the box sister!!!! :goodvibes

To keep the mat sticky just wipe them down with baby wipes. Works like a charm!

Gotta love baby wipes. It works like a charm getting the little paper particules and keeping the mat sticky.

I haven't had a baby in my house for years, but I will never give up baby wipes. Useful in so many ways.:thumbsup2

i still use baby wipes also. i keep them around for lots of things. and my man is 5. i buy the bj's brand and they are like cloth. they work great!

thanks guys for your help!

I'm so glad you finally jumped in and did it! As you know, it took me a while to open mine, too. The first day was disastrous, but the 2nd time I was better able to concentrate and read the instructions and now it's no sweat! I am about to open my 3rd cutting mat. I tried the baby wipes and it didn't work for me. I am trying to work up the nerve to buy some repositionable adhesive and spray one to see how that works.

I also say the instructions out loud!

When I saw this thread I had to laugh. Although I didn't keep my Cricut in the box I sure didn't expand out far. Just the simple letters. My Mom bought me Mickey and Friends months ago and there it sat in the box never opened. I finally decided to take the plunge. I LOVE IT!! I can do so many things but boy that instruction manual is never far from my side. Sure made lot of strange looking things before I got one border of hands or Mickeys. I was just sitting here thinking can't wait to go home from work today to play with it again. :rotfl:

Sorry I missed this, wasn't intentionally ignoring ya. We've been doing the funeral scene for the past few days. DH's non-smoking aunt was surprisingly diagnosed with rapidly growing lung cancer that had progressed to her hip bones. She went in the hospital, got the diagnosis, had hip surgery and never came out of it. Dr.s said that most people at the stage she was in had been bed-ridden for a month prior and were surprised that she had taken a trip the week before. But I digress...

Yes, I do talk through it. My kids are used to it, though. It helps me double check and make sure I'm doing it all right. I hate it when I cut something wrong and waste the paper.

So sorry for your loss!

I usually talk through what I am doing too. Although, with the Expression I don't do it much because it shows me what I am about to cut! Which is extremely helpful when using the Mickey and Friends cartridge. Thats one of the many reasons I love the big bug. :cloud9: My big bug and I do have occasional one-sided conversations though.
