Headed down soon, finalizing plans. Bringing our 2 foster dudes 2.5 and 5. ( Spastic quad CP, multiple medical complexities, cognitive and global delays) At home here they both sleep in cribs for safety reasons. ( we are waiting on a medically approved safe sleep bed for oldest but it will be many months before insurance is approved) Both boys LOVE their cribs and feel very safe/comfortable in them. Oldest is way to big for a “pack and play, and he “Stimms” by rocking while standing up and has flipped a pack and play in the past.
we will be staying in Davenport in a house for 21 days and crib rentals appear to be 20.00 a night. That is 800.00 dollars for 2 cribs for our stay. ( we could honestly buy 2 new cribs for less than that)
We are just searching for any possible suggestions. We considered buying the cribs then asking a local family member to sell them on a local FB page for us, or having the same local family member see if they could purchase 2 used cribs for us on a local Facebook page ( and then just donate them to a facility/family that may need them when we leave). Bed rails will not work, at all. Oldest will just mean on over and fall out.
Judt wondering if anyone found an inexpensive way to get 2 cribs ( or some type of safe sleep system) that didn’t cost a ton of money?

It sounds like you've done some research, so you've probably already found this. But It looks like there's a place in the Orlando area that offers $100 for 2 weeks, $70 for one week. So that would be under $400 for 2 cribs for 21 days. However, looking at the map, it might be hard to transport from Orlando to Davenport, and it might still be cheaper to buy 2 cribs.

Have you looked at Craigslist or FB marketplace in the area that you will be staying? Otherwise it might be cheaper to buy two cribs and have it delivered to the house you’re staying at.

I think the issue you are finding is that the area you are going is not a typical tourist area.

Where did you rent your house from? Some companies have them on request.

How would your older do with bed rails?
Our son used two soft side bedrails

Yes, we have seen those. Those are rather expensive as they are specialized ( taller than normal, and designed for queen sized bed) I did consider those, but the cost was very high. Also I was very worried about the “stability” of them as he “stimms” by grabbing the top handle and shaking/rocking against the railing. I totally appreciate this suggestion though! I wish these would work!

I will ask my home health & PT peeps this week.
Btw these rails are $33 each on walmart... I get what you mean about stability cause they only buckle together underneath the mattress.

based on your research I would look at the new and have your friends sell for you. with your special guys I would not trust used that I did not know.

Davenport is a big area in /polk County. . It is really in the heart of the tourist area. It is just to the west of Disney right next to Champions zgate and reunion. companies should deliver to that home easily.

It's a weird idea, I know, but...

What about something like this play yard, with a couple of crib mattresses on the floor? There are are also versions like this "oversized" playpen that have a "self floor" that might be better? Just trying to think of what would be safe - and easy - for everyone (not to mention probably under $200 total)

These extra tall ones are only 33.00? I will definitely need to look then! I originally saw them but they were 179.00 each! I think he still might knock them down, but that price makes me much happier!

Would something like what Gold Mobility Rents work? $64.99 flat rate for first 7 days, for 21 days, each one looks like it would be $134.85. if you call them, they may give you a deal on two.

Alternatively, you could try contacting where you are staying and see if you bought cribs and left the behind for future guests if they might cut you a deal.

Here's a fairly recent thread from the Family board with some vendor suggestions: https://www.disboards.com/threads/baby-crib-rental.3830669/

Also, are you sure the $20/night is still the rate for a longer-term rental? I've looked at some vendors that quote a higher rate for up to 3 or 4 nights but then the rate goes down for longer rentals. For example Kingdom Strollers lists $165 for 21 nights for a full-size folding crib. I know you've done a lot of research but just in case you were going strictly off the listed nightly rental price, it may be worth contact the vendor to see if there is a deal for 2 cribs for 21 nights. Good luck!

Our PT said you should check into bed tents, that's what her autistic kids use for night terrors and keeps them from wandering. ( Not the play/ toy type)
I'm not sure if they make a portable version that fits on any bed.. I have not had a chance to research it for you yet just wanted to update my findings.

Yes, the bed tents are definitely an option. The oldest likes to stand to stimm and they would not allow him to stand ( I was hoping they would be exhausted though....). If I can find a good price on them ( and he can’t flip it off the mattress) I am definitely interested in at least trying them! Thanks for checking with your therapist friends!

We are all in this together, not everyone understands. Maybe on Amazon prime deals :)

So I had this crazy idea that probably won't work, and I did a quick cursory Google search that wasn't fruitful, which is why I say it probably won't work. But is there any chance that two "hospital" cribs could obtained through a durable medical equipment loan? Durable medical equipment loans are free, sometimes. But I doubt a crib would be considered durable medical equipment, even if it were a hospital crib, since a regular crib would serve the same purpose. But I thought I'd throw the idea out there anyway.

This is a good idea. I wonder if insurance would cover it? Oh tricky tricky insurance....🤣
