Crib or Toddler bed?

I need some advice? I was putting DD(20 months) down for a nap today and when I pulled the side of the crib up the spring snapped and the side won't stay up. I don't think it is repairable nor will I feel 100% comfortable with it even if we can fix it. The crib is almost 10 years old and my DD is the 3rd to use it.

My question is should I just switch to a toddler bed or buy another crib? Babies R Us has a Jenni Lind for $130 plus I have a 15% off coupon. It converts to a toddler bed also. I am leaning more toward the toddler bed but worry about DD waking up and wondering around in the middle of the night. I can just imagine waking up in the morning and she is sleep on the floor with every toy and book around her. She tends to get into things very quickly!

Should I stick with a crib or go right to a toddler bed??

My son is 19 months and he has slept in a toddler bed for the last month. He does get out of bed at night even after we lay him down, and we hear him play a little bit, but he always seems to meander back to bed and fall asleep in the bed. If you worry about in the middle of the night going out of the room you can always leave the door open, but put a baby gate up in front of the door. I like the toddler bed myself, I find it more accessible and gives him some independence.

Word to the wise, my son did get up and come out into the living room for the first couple of weeks, we just kept putting him back in and he eventually got that he had to go to bed.

DD3 was in a toddler bed at 18 months too. However since she was my first I was scared of her falling out so we put the toddler bed at the foot of our bed for the first 2 weeks until I was sure she could do it.

I wouldn't buy another crib. My dd moved out of a crib at 17 months to a twin bed (bottom bunk of bunkbeds). We put a rail on the front for about a month and then took it off. She never once fell out. Then just after her 3rd birthday, she moved to the top bunk and her older brother moved to the bottom.

We moved DD1 to a toddler bed with a rail at 12 months and put up a baby gate at her bedroom door it worked well.

Unless you think you are going to have more babies, I would just do the toddler bed....

Can you just leave the side rail off the crib you now have? DD's crib converted to a toddler day bed. And that was all you had to do was remove the side that slided up and down and instant toddler day bed. We thought about a toddler bed since they are a bit lower and have built in rails but decided against it just because of $$. DD is big for her age and already weighs 38 pounds. Most of the toddler beds I've seen have a max of 50 pounds. So we are just going with the crib with the rail removed and saving up for a double bed so we can get her a new bedroom set when she finally does outgrow this.

We moved both of our kids to toddler beds at 18 months (both were tall for their age-----wearing size 3T-4T at 18 months due to height------and both were climbers). To keep them from wandering around the house at night (in their rooms wasn't a problem as their rooms were completely baby-proofed & safe) we put safety gates (of a style they couldn't climb over) in their doorways. Strangely enough, with both of them....and they're 4 years apart in age....getting out of their toddler beds didn't occur to them until they had been in them for a few months. We'd put them in bed & they'd stay there until we told them it was time to get up. That lasted for about 3 months with both of them.....but once they realized they COULD get out of the bed.....believe me, those gates in the doorways were lifesavers! LOL At this point, if I were you, I'd go with the toddler bed & just put a safety gate in the doorway to keep your DD safely in her room at night.

Go for a toddler bed.

DD learned to climb out of her crib at 24 months. The binky fairy came to take her binkies for babies who need them and since DD wasn't sucking on a binky, she decided to use that time to hone her climbing skills! It was then that I took the side rail off the convertible crib and turned it into a toddler bed. I put a baby gate up in her door and it worked fine.

I can just imagine waking up in the morning and she is sleep on the floor with every toy and book around her.

There were nights when I had to pick her up and put her back in bed after she'd fallen asleep on the floor. But that can happen whenever you make the switch to a toddler bed. It makes for some cute pictures. I removed the bookcase from DD's room after I went in one night to discover every book from the shelf on her bed and she was sleeping on top of them. I'm glad she likes books, but it looked really uncomfortable.
