Just in case for people who haven't found this out yet, I found out at Pop Century that there's been a change to the policy of how they give you a credit limit on your room key, and then when that limit is reached, they used to automatically charge it to your card and then start over a new limit. Well, I was purchasing something at Downtown Disney, and the clerk said she couldn't charge it to my room key, that her register was saying "over credit limit", and wanted another form of payment. So after paying with my regular card, I went back to the Pop Century front desk and asked what the official story is. The front desk clerk told me that they have changed the policy, and now need some type of verification from you in order to charge the balance to your credit card and start a new credit limit. Apparently they were getting complaints from people who were giving a credit card just to get charging privileges, but who wanted to pay with cash, and were upset when their credit cards were charged. So I guess it's a no-win situation for Disney, they can either please one group or the other. The front desk clerk did apologize, and said that the Downtown Disney clerk did not follow the correct procedure, however, in that when that message comes up on the register, the clerk is supposed to call the resort front desk for you, have you verbally confirm the credit card charge, and then you have a new credit limit, instead of just rejecting your card like that. If I had had the name of the person, the front desk clerk offered to have that person reprimanded for me, as she didn't follow the procedure. The front desk clerk told me that if this happens again, guests are supposed to ask the clerk to call the front desk of their resort, to verify the charge, and if the clerk acts like they don't want to, then we're supposed to ask to use the phone, dial "0", ask for our resort front desk, and verify it ourselves, but that it shouldn't be happening, because the store clerks are supposed to call for us. Just an FYI.......

Does anyone know what the credit limit is?? Just wondering

Thanks Kristy

Well at Pop Century (value resort), the limit was $500. I believe the moderate resorts (Caribbean Beach, Coronado Springs, Port Orleans) are $1000, and the deluxes (too many to list, but the monorail resorts and Epcot area resorts are among them) are $1500. You can see how over a week or so it would be pretty easy to exceed the limit for a value or even a moderate.

Those are the standard limits, you can request higher/lower at check-in if you desire to

thanks

We were told at the GF and the BWI that you cannot request higher limits (and this had nothing to do with our credit card limits). The same thing that happened to the above poster happened to us at the gallery at MGM. One purchase was more than the limit and instead of calling the GF and allowing my fiance to okay another credit line, the CM just kept repeating (to our obvious embarassment) that we were over our limit. My fiance just paid with another card and notified the GF as to what was going on with the limits. Next time, we'll insist that the CM call the resort. We were told this was a security precaution. WDW needs to inform all CMs of the proper procedure when this occurs.

Thanks for sharing. It's nice to know of these things before it happens and I don't usually carry the actual credit card with me so I would be bumming. It makes sense.. some people probably spend way more then they figured they did.

Thanks for the info..

Last year while staying at ASMO in May 2002, we had gone over the $500.00 limit. So the lady at DD had to call the front desk at ASMO. The front desk spoke to me and just verified that I was me and gave us another $500.00 limit. So I thought this was always the policy:D

When we were at BWV a couple of weeks ago, we passed our limit. The clerk at the General Store said we were over the limit and she had to call the front desk. The front desk told her it was fine and cleared the charge. Later I went and got a print out from the front desk to see where I was with my limit, and they had already charged my card the $1500 and had started over. I didn't mind, because I was putting it all on my card anyway. I never had to use another form of payment though, when they said I hit my limit.

Hmm. this has me wondering. How does this work for cash deposit? Can I give them say, $1,200 at Pop when we check in for charging purposes?

Does anyone know how cash deposits work?

Anne

We passed our limit at AKL as well. It was the last evening and the last purchase. It was comforting though... we had been there for ten days and we then knew we'd just passed $1500! We didn't bother authorizing more charges as we were leaving the next day.

Elgerber, what happened to you was how it's supposed to work. They're supposed to call the front desk for you and start a new limit. What happened to Cinderella37 and myself was how it was NOT supposed to work, where the castmember just hands you the card back, and says it's over the limit and there's nothing they can do. If that ever happens again, I will get the name of the person this time, because they shouldn't be doing that- it defeats the purpose of having the room key charge card, so that you don't have to carry around other cards. As far as cash deposits go, like someone else asked, I think your limit becomes the amount of cash that you give them, if you don't give them a credit card. They probably would not authorize another limit until you gave them either more cash or a credit card number.

Same thing happened to us on our last trip. Buying pictures after the TofT ride and they said we'd gone over our limit. I also thought the "limit" would be charged to your card and start over once it was met- but nope. And they also did not say a word about being able to verify it at our resort front desk or anything. They just kept saying it was over the limit- and I kept asking.. how can that be? I just went ahead and paid for it with a CC (thankfully DH brought his in his wallet) and then asked the front desk when we returned to our resort- and they said the same thing mentioned here... that the limit won't be charged until they are verified to do it- in case guests want to pay cash instead.
Real great to find that out in line to purchase something! It was kind of embarrassing- I mean they just said "you've gone over your limit" like 3 times.... NOT saying "you've gone over your room credit limit"- so to others it might sound like we overdid it on a CC or something. :(

I'm glad to know about asking them to call the front desk and get it taken care of- I will do that next time!

Yes you can give them cash at check in and have them place it against your account. We do this with Disney Dollars (which are treated as cash). You will still have to give them a credit card imprint in case you charge more than you give them.

On our last trip to ASMo, I handed the front desk clerk $600 disney dollars and told her I wanted them placed on my account. She told me I couldn't do that, I said yes I sure can, I have done it in the past. She went to ask and of course she was wrong and I was right. From that point on, she was very very rude to me!!! I think she was mad that I proved her wrong or something
