I've never used a credit card in Orlando before, just cash and TC's -a bit behind the times!! - but have got myself a shiny new Post Office Mastercard to use this year.:cool2: Just a few questions please...

Do they use chip and pin everywhere now or still signatures?

Planning on having quite a few cs meals at parks. Is it OK to use a card then or will I hold up the queue and get dirty looks! :rotfl:

Is there any advantage or convenience in using room key to charge to room on the days we will be staying on site or would I be as well to use credit card instead?

Mainly still signature but it will grow.
I'd have thought it would be more convenient to use the room key.

Out of interest I found out elsewhere that the PO card is administered by the Bank of Ireland.
Any idea how they calculate the exchange rate, is there a euro rate factored in their somehow which might make it better or worse than other cards.
Just wondered if it could be advantageous at times.

In your paperwork what consumer credit act did it refer to, UK or Irish?

Sorry, but at Christmas, most cards were chip and pin!!
We have an american bank account, so we were ok, but when we tried to use our UK debit cards, we had trouble in quite a few places!! So be sure you take enough with you!!

EEk paperwork - generally shoved into nearest drawer unread!
I chose this card because I saw it recommended on the moneysaving expert site and mentioned on these boards - PO and nationwide cc's had best exchange rate! Fished out the paperwork Jakey - just quotes consumer Credit Act 1974 -I guess that's uk??

Yes debit cards are often chip and pin but I have never had to use my pin for my credit card! Only signature ever and that is if over about $25 otherwise nothing

Thanks for that. :thumbsup2
That is the UK consumer credit act, though its gone through a host of amendments since, so it's no different than any other credit card issued in the UK.

It does seem to get a good rating, I've got a friend who has one for this year also, they couldn't find the paperwork so that was why I was asking.

I found the same thing last year. The first time I made a small transaction and no signature was required, I thought the cashier had forgotten to charge me. No such luck!

l agree with Jakey, this might be the easiest way. You can pay any outstanding balances at the front desk every few days with your credit card if you want to keep an eye on your budget prior to check out. Just keep your receipts to double check that everything is correct. :)

Thanks for all replies. :goodvibes

I use my co-op credit card at home for almost everything now and find chip and pin so fast that even if it's only a few pounds I don't worry about holding up people waiting behind me!

I've never try using it at at our local chip shop though or Mcdonalds :rotfl: that's why I was wondering about the cs places at disney!!

Using cards in Disney is quicker than cash, you dont sign, no pin, half the time the dont even ask for ID. They increased the floor limit to $50 last visit, Only transactions over $50 needed signature, previous visits it was $25.
They really should do more checks but then people would complain about the lines.

I got a PO credit card for our last trip and the exchange rate was great ;) .

I had to sign for most things, with one exception being the harley davision shop at DTD, that had chip n pin.

I used a combo of charging the room key within disney; they will also sent the stuff to your room so no carting it all around. and usingg CC outside disney.

I've used it at McDonalds - here and in the USA:lmao:

I have found that even where places have chip and pin, the majority of times with my UK based US Dollar Visa Debit card, I still have to sign.
I used to always come unstuck on the chip and pin machines (like in supermarkets), some of them have buttons for Debit /Credit, so I would select debit, put my Pin in and it would get rejected. But if I select credit, I'm then asked to sign (and sometimes show ID) then it's fine.
It seems my Visa debit card is treated in the US like a credit card.

In gas stations where invariably you have to prepay, then my card doesn't work at the pump readers, as when you select Credit, it askes you for a Zip code. So I have to go to the till and prepay first.

Thanks for that! will try putting 'credit' it, when using our debit cards in April!

OK. So thank you, now I'm happier about using credit card :thumbsup2 , but am I right in gathering that I should carry ID as well? I usually leave our passports in the room safe! I don't have any other photo ID. :confused3

Yes many places want ID with Credit cards. Dont you have driving license? Anyone still on a paper license its worth paying to get the plastic one, then leave passport in safe, think they are only about £10.
If you dont have a license then its pasport unfortunately.

A black and white copy of your passport can be used as well, laminate it if possible. We used this last year a couple of times with no problem.

If you're driving you should have a form of ID on you anyway.

The £10 for a driving licence seems OK, if you've changed address it's free, that's how I got mine.
Expensive way to save £10. :)

Thanks Wayneg.
Never realised it was so cheap to change to a photo license. ;) Plan to go ahead and do that and hope it arrives before we go!
Not enough time to move home for a free license Jakey. :rotfl:
