Hello

Just wondered if anyone knew about this?

Yesterday l went on a little shopping trip to get ready for our hol, yippee! So merryily spending away on my card, l had a great time :rotfl: On the way home needed to stop and get some petrol from a well known supermarket, filled up the car and went off to pay. Gave the woman my credit card and she informs me that its been declined :sad2: and that she'll need to ring for authorisation. She takes my credit card into an office and then returns a few minutes later informing me that its been declined again :furious: The shop was full of people and it was very embarrassing and all the way home l was panicking knowing l had more than enough funds to cover it. All things were going through my mind, had l been a victim of fraud etc. So when i got home l rang the cc company who informed me that you can only use the card 8 times in 1 day  does anyone else know that? Also they informed me that no one had rang for authorisation, so tonight l've rang the supermarket and l have to meet with the store manager to speak to him 'in person' (his words)

8 times!!!! I know I have used mine more than that on shopping sprees.......how strange!

Very strange. I've never heard of such a "rule" before. I've definitely used my credit cards more than 8 times in one day before.

Good luck meeting with the store manager! I hope you get to the bottom of this. If they didn't call for authorisation, I would be a bit suspicious of exactly what they were doing with your CC when they went into the office. It must have been extremely embarrassing

:wizard:

Blimey, I've never heard of that rule before. Good luck with the Manager, I hope you get it all sorted out :thumbsup2

what a nightmare

I hope you had money to pay for the petrol
I know if that was me, I wouldn't as I use cards nearly all the time now
i carry very little cash

what CC company was that from

and far as I know she shouldn't have taken your credit card into an office without you .

please let us know how you get on

Unfortunately, it sounds like a scam to me. The assistant should never have taken your card from you. They should have invited you into the office where a telephone call to your CC company would be made.

Rachel

I do hope you get it sorted :goodvibes Keep us intouch and let us know what happens with the store manager, good luck.

I knew that they sometimes question your card or have to phone for authorisation if you have 'unusual' spending (ie you've spent more than you normally would or have a high number of transactions compared to normal) but I certainly didn't think there was a limit on how many times you could use it.

I certainly wouldn't have let the card out of my sight though - open to all sorts of scams that way. Hope the store manager apologises profusely (on bended knee) and is able to unsure you that your card will not have been copied in any way.

A couple of times when I have used my card alot over 24 hrs I have in 2 seperate shops had to wait whilst they rang the company. Once they even asked to speak to me and asked me my star sign before they authorised it!! (I guess to check it was me!!)....but the phone call was made at the till so I didnt think there was anything wrong. I have never known them to take the card into the office but if thats where the phone is than its possible.....but then decline it?? I really hope the store manager can help and explain to you!!
Good Luck :)

Where i used to work we quite often had to call for authorisation but it was always done infront of the customer.Lucky the phone was by the till.

I have heard about the number of times it can be used in one day, this also applies to some debit cards.

Thanks guys for all the good luck wishes, l'll keep you posted on how it goes with the Store Manager. It's only dawned on me today about the implications of her taking my cc into that office, l must be naive when it comes to things like that

Jns - the cc is with Nationwide and according to them they have this 'maximum use' to prevent fraud. Thankfully l paid my petrol with my debit card for my bank account otherwise l would of been in trouble :rolleyes1

I used to work in a bank and the way it used to work, (at my bank atleast) was that if someone had used their card repeatedly in a relatively short space of time, the card issuer would sometimes ask for authorisation on the next purchase!

The store would get a message come up on the till saying authorisation required, and would be prompted to phone a central fraud number - once they get through the bank would usually ask to speak to the customer and ask 1 or 2 security questions such as D.O.B etc, once they are happy that you are the account holder and the card hasnt been stolen you can go along shopping as before.

To be honest i used to get people come in all the time saying my card has been declined etc etc and when i looked into it 9 times out of 10 the store hadnt bothered to phone for authorisation!

Hope you get it sorted!!

Never heard of this and I shop for Scotland with my debit and credit cards.

Hope you get it sorted out.

I have used my card more than 9 times in 1 day even when abroad!! Hope you get it sorted! :teeth:

Id be very interested in hearing what they have to say for themselves. Write to head office also making a complaint, you'll most likely get some store vouchers sent to you by way of apology.

I wouldnt be too concerned about your card being out of sight. Chip and Pin should take care of any unauthorised usage....you certainly wont be liable.....ive been a victim of credit card fraud in the past myself (about £300 quids worth), and I know I didnt have to pay anything.

Are those "venture" photographs on your signature by the way ?

Yes they are Venture pic's, l'm impressed that you knew that! Have you used them before?

Hi Rachel!

Just wanted to add my good wishes in hoping you get this sorted out. My card has been declined before when it shouldn't so I know how embarrasing it can be. They owe you a big apology.

SIDENOTE: my friend is a photographer for Venture so I know they do a fantastic job. As you can see, an easily recognisable style too. Glad they turned out so well,

Claire xx

Yeah, we got some superb pictures taken towards the end of last year. We got the set where there are 3 square pics at the top, a "widescreen" one accross the middle, and 3 square pics at the bottom. We also got a couple of seperates.

The photos are excellent.....cant quite say the same about the price! We had to pay them over 6 months on 0%, which I think finishes this month.

I must admit I've never heard of a rule like that before, I'm constantly having to phone for authorisation on peoples credit card as I usually take balances above 10k on them but it usually only takes a minute and the authorisation peole always want to talk to the customer when they do it. How strange. Does anyone know if any other company does this?

Rachel, hope you get it all sorted.
by the way what are venture pics??? :confused3 :teeth:
