Just to let DVCers and others know to watch your credit card statements.
I just got our Disney Visa credit card statement yesterday and had 2 fraud charges in Orlando. 1 at Doubletree Downtown Disney for $133 and 1 at Doubletree in Orlando for $649.88. Call Visa and they said there were 2 more charges not processed yet. All 4 fraud charges were at both hotels and between Oct 13 to Oct 17, 2017. They are working on following it up.
2 years ago we had 2 Visa credit cards with fraudulent charges at Disney and in New York within 2 months.
We are now going to be on our 4th set of cards.

Any idea how it happened? Did you use your credit card to charge directly to your room? Give it to a waiter/waitress at a restaurant? Merchandise location? Park Cart? Grocery Store? Gas station or ATM?

Hope everything works out OK for you. It's not happened to us (yet), but I usually check our charges online every 2 or 3 days to make sure all are legitimate. You could probably call me paranoid on this subject, although I am much more worried bout identity theft than credit card theft.

Thanks for the reminder.

I am curious too. We were at Disney first week of October. I will be keeping an eye on my CC statement. We had two frauds on our Chase Visa in the past 16 months. They came after hotel stays not at Disney.

We have had it happen a couple of times on cards only used on Disney property at the resorts so we know that CM's were involved. Neither Disney security or the credit card company cared, so me canceled the card numbers and moved on. We have our accounts now set up to text us when the cards are used so we know all charges.

My Chase Southwest card got hit this week too. Not a huge deal but yuck.

Kind of surprised Visa didn't contact you. As someone already said, set up alerts on your account. Chase lets you set the amount for notification at $1, so ANY charge to a card sends us an email.

I sometimes get annoyed that my bank is so quick to activate the fraud alert on my accounts, but posts like this remind me that it's a good thing! Hope you get everything sorted out.

I like this feature.

Our Chase Disney Visa was hacked two weeks ago while we were cruising with DCL out of NYC. We had only used the card for onboard charges and to pay for parking at the pier. We did not use it in any of the ports we visited. We were hit for over $4500 for fraudulent charges at Victorinix, Dell, and Nike. Chase alerted us after the Nike charge but not about the Dell or Victorinix. We have had the card for over 15 years and never had any fraud occur before. We never use the card at service stations, restaurants, grocery stores or anywhere you have to hand your card over to someone who walks away with it. As I said before, we only used the card on the ship and to pay for parking so the fraud must have occurred in one of those places.

Beginning to look like this is an epidemic. My Disney Visa was hit with two fraudulent charges made at locations in San Francisco (I live in Chicago) just two weeks ago. I got the fraud alert and the charges never got beyond "pending," but, of course, had to switch to a new Disney VISA card (Chase did that quick in that I had the new card three days later). This is the second time I have been hit in the last five years.

It can happen anywhere. DH used his card at Abercrombie & Fitch in Washington - only time he used it on our trip. It was used fraudulently in Starbucks in San Francisco (we've never been to SF! Fortunately was flagged straight away or might have been used more!

Not necessarily. There have been so many data breeches that one can never be sure how the info was obtained. I've read that credit card info is for sale (cheap) on the "dark web" and that it can be months or years before it is sold and used. I hate that we have to be so careful and that there are so many dishonest people.

I also will not hand my card over to someone who takes it out of my sight. I pay inside for gas and the restaurants we frequent bring a machine to the table. If I can, I avoid places that still swipe and use the chip & pin as often as possible. But I'm sure it's only a matter of time. I think the credit card companies just consider fraud as a cost of doing business. That bothers me, because I think identity theft is a bigger problem than credit card fraud, and their "oh well, that's how it is" attitude is emboldening the crooks ad making identity theft easier to get away with, too. (IMO).

There have been TV shows on how hand skimmers are used, several are on YouTube. Also stories on how skimmers can be attached to ATMs and gas pumps.

I've had a credit card used before it even arrived in my mailbox. The bank called me up to tell me to cut them up when I received them and they would overnight replacements.

The breach could be anywhere - person handling card, point of sales machine hacked, card processing company breach, breach at your bank, breach at credit bureau. All of these have happened, so don't just kneejerk blame the CM.

We also had it happen to us after a recent trip to WDW. They ordered a bicycle for $4,709!!!

It's happened to me many times. One line of defense is an RFID wallet. It's all I carry now.

as another data point -- I was at WDW two weeks ago and on the day I hit up all 4 parks (and all 46 rides -- but that is another story), I got a text alert from AMEX that I might have been breached. The alert was for some shoe company, so I wasn't sure if my wife went crazy and bought $500 in shoes -- but within the next 12 hours, someone bought another $2000 worth of stuff through various websites (<$500 at a time).

After I called AMEX, I told them my card was in my wallet the whole time and I never even used it to purchase anything within the last 4 days. The AMEX guy said there was likely someone on property using an RFID reader that could read the card in my wallet. I thought that was a little crazy, but as soon as I told him I was at Disney, he more or less acted like this was somewhat normal.

I mentioned it to the concierge at the hotel, but he acted like he had never heard of it. So who knows.

I don't worry about these issues too much. AMEX overnighted me a new card and updated my accounts in Apple Pay -- and any of my reoccurring monthly billings are still being handled under the old card number. Their customer service is truly the best.

According to my AMEX guy, the people now have readers that can take your information as you walk by.

ETA -- with that said -- I had at least 2 other credit cards in my wallet that day, and neither of them had any issues...so who knows.

We are charter Disney Visa cardmembers. No Fraud for first 12 years. Three times in last 2 years and twice in last three months. I wonder what is going on?
