Credit card charge before limit?

Answers seem to be all over the place with this, which is frustrating. Staying at the Beach Club Villas on rented points next week and I know the limit is $1,500 (though I've heard $2,000 in some places).

Technically (as you all know) what's supposed to happen is they either charge you when you hit your limit or check out, whichever comes first. But I see people online saying they got charged when they hit $800 after a short period (like three days) or they got charged when they hit $600 at a moderate (where the limit is $1000).

My issue is that we're using our bank card/credit card and we get paid several days into our stay, and it's from that paycheck where I have the money budgeted for this trip. If Disney doesn't charge until payday (and based on my budget we won't hit the $1500 by then), no problem. If they charge before that, problem.

Anyone care to share recent experiences.

And we never got charged. I hit the limit and didn't know it (we don't keep track), and when I tried to buy a drink in the MK it was declined! Boy was I annoyed. So it seems like the policy on this is all over the place.

The limit at the villas and deluxes is now $2,000.

Supposedly they charge your card when you reach the limit or during the night before your check out day. Recently some have said that if they charged a large amount in a short period of time at the start of their stay, their card was charged before they reached the limit so as long as you don't charge up a storm before payday you should be fine. :) You can stop by the front desk and get a print out of your charges every night or two.

We had a little over $4000 worth of room charges last trip Feb/Mar while we stayed at AKL. They charged $1996 automatically on the 5th day, another $2035 automatically 6 days later and the rest after we checked out. I was glad they did it automatically because on previous trips I had to call the concierge from the parks.

Last time I was there, two yrs ago.
They ran my card for a couple hundred at check in.

I was told that's what they do to make sure the card is valid and for any damage/incidentals

I told them I wanted to pay via gift cards and they said the charge would be reversed if not used or paid via gift card.
It was but that doesn't help that funds are tied up if you need them

That should not have happened. They are only supposed to run a charge for $1.00 to verify the card is good.

We always stay deluxe and hit the limit halfway through our week, and they never ran the charge. They just let it decline when I tried to buy a drink. So I don't think anyone can count on anything specific except make sure you have ALL the money to pay for whatever you're charging to your room when you charge it. I wouldn't charge a bunch of stuff, relying on a paycheck that comes later in the week.

I agree, there is no set policy on when they charge your credit card. Do you have another credit card other than debit? I would guarantee a regular credit card to the room and then pay the balance when you get home, if that is possible.

Once I have had them not run the card after I hit the limit but instead just kept me from spending any more.

Once I had them charge the card before I hit the limit (just did it at the end of the day).

After those I just went every night to have them charge it so I didn't have to worry about it.

As far as I know. Limits are 1000, 1500 and 2000. But there are other things that can flag you account to have it charged early. A big purchase (something from one of the art stores, jewelers etc), a lot of transactions very quickly and I was told that the number of people that have charging privileges to the same account can cause the charge to go early.

I am the type that charges to the room and pays off with cash. So I've had plenty of experience with talking to cast members about this. What I mentioned is things that had been said by a cast member a few different times.

We actually just ran into this. We planned on paying the room charges with gift cards but found ourselves unexpectedly getting charged this morning. 2 minutes with the front desk and everything was shifted over to the gift cards. Not an issue.

We were charged on checkout day during our last trip (9 days), but we don't typically charge very much to the room other than gratuities so we weren't even close to the limit.

We have never had them charge early but because of this fear and the fact we want all our charges paid with our Disney Reward dollars or gift cards that we have saved for our spending we go down every night when we get back and pay off our charges for that day.
