Creative ways to give gift cards

My 15 y/o is getting almost all gift cards as her main gift for Christmas this year. Most will be to places in the local mall.

I have a few things planned (but I am open to better ideas) and I have a few that I am not sure how to present.

Movie GC - I was going to wrap it in one of those popcorn boxes and put Styrofoam popcorn in it.

Clothing store GC - DD just got rid of a bunch of old blue jeans. I was going to cut the pockets off a few pairs and put the multiple gift cards in different jean pockets.

Itunes - Wrap in CD cases

Panera Bread - DD almost always gets their soup so I was thinking of using an empty, clean soup can.

Thai Restaurant - Not sure what to do with this one. She likes veggie sushi but I am not that creative.

Smoothie place - Not sure. I am wondering if they will give me one of their empty cups to put it in.

Eye brow waxing place - Not a clue.

Are these corny ideas? Any other ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

I get where you're going, but here's another idea. I saw on the Family board that someone was giving their DD all gift cards. She was going to decorate a little XMas tree with all of the gift cards, like ornaments. I think it's a cute idea I might use when my kids are older. Then you could reuse the tree another year as a decoration.

One year we did a scavenger hunt for the GCs. We hung hints on the tree and hid about 20 gc in the same room. It was fun!

I think these are great ideas and sound like fun!

Does the Thai place do take out in those paper boxes like other oriental places? I know they sell them at Michaels.

I thought of doing that but I know DD would prefer to open things that look like gifts.

My DD is not a morning person. While she will greatly appreciate her gifts, she would never want to do a scavenger hunt first thing in the morning. When she was little and fun, she would have loved it but now she is hormonal and grumpy! :rotfl2: (J/K)

They don't have those boxes but I know I can buy one. Chinese.....Thai......close enough! :lmao:

Cute ideas! I was thinking the same thing as a previous poster that you should get those chinese food boxes to put the Thai gift card in. As for the smoothie place, you could attach it to some fruit in a basket perhaps. And the eye brow waxing gift card would look nice on an eyeshadow palette.

Love it! :thumbsup2

I like the idea of a giftcard tree.

Okay...it's early in the morning and I'm only halfway through my tea....for the eyebrow wax: Get a block of Gulf Wax (in the canning aisle) and tape the gift card to that. It's about the size of a pound of butter. We used to use the wax to seal jelly jars when we didn't have enough jars that used lids and bands.

Good luck and Merry Christmas!

I always put them in a box or a gift bag with a bunch of tissue (shredded in a gift bag if I can find it), because I always worry that just putting it in a card will make it seem 'less gifty'. At least that way, they have something to unwrap and it looks more festive under the tree than a pile of envelopes.

I like the idea of a theme wrapping like the OP said a popcorn box for a moive gift certificate, etc.

Very cute ideas~

I have done the tree and little wallets.

I prefer to give the gift cards along with something that they will also be able to use. So for the eyebrow waxing gift card maybe you could give a small basket with eyebrow pencil, sharpener, eyelash curler, etc. Sometimes ulta has cute gift baskets and five items of your choice for ten dollars around the holidays. Or you can follow the cvs thread for cosmetics and beauty tools that are discounted. For panera I would get a basket of there bagels and cream cheese tubs for eveyone to share on Christmas morning. For the movie I would get a dvd on black friday for a few bucks and attach the card. Or go to walgreens when they put the movie size candies on sale for a buck apiece. Clothing gift card would get tucked into a pair of those stretchy gloves that cost a buck. I buy those every year anyway b/c the kids can keep an extra pair in there jacket pockets. I like the cd case for the itunes card but its only useful if they burn cds. Otherwise you might want to package it with an inexpensive set of earbuds. Those things never last for very long b/c the wires are so thin. Does she use chopsticks for thai food? Buy her a pair of nicer ones at an asian food store and use those with the gift card. For the smoothie place give the card with a reusable mug. Maybe one of those kinds that you can put in the freezer and it will keep your drink cold longer.

I was thinking of making an exploding box for my DD for her gift cards.

But I like your individual themed packaging better!

I'm getting DD a starbucks card, local coffee shop/cafe card, bookstore card, grocery store card, ????. She is in college. Does Marshall's sell gift cards? She seems to always go there.

I gave one in a paintcan. You can buy a new one at at Lowes or Home Depot. Stuff in tissue paper, put in the card, put the lid on, wrap it, and and then tie one of those keys that you use to pry it open on the side. I think it cost less than $2 for the supplies.

I like this idea! :thumbsup2

My DD will be getting a lot of GC too. I always wrap them with a small gift (socks, etc) and put a brick or stone in some of the boxes so it's heavy. I think at 15 they still want to open gifts and while a tree is a cute idea, it's over pretty quick.

In Target and JCPenney, I've seen little plastic puzzles that hold money/gift cards. The recipient has to solve the puzzle (usually a maze-type puzzle) before they can get to the contents.
