O.K Just looking around allears menus for some inexpensive meals and came across Trails to go. Giddy up @ go(10pc. Chicken, fries, and slaw and biscuits.)$19.99 .Plus other things are also on the menu. Has any one ever gone to ft. wilderness just for a picnic? Can anyone comment on the food To go.Must be just like Trails end ? What do think. :confused3 Or do any of you have any other creative cheap eats?

I have a couple of "cheap eats" suggestions....mostly stolen from other boards or other posters :earboy2:

Last time we were at WDW (May 2004), we stayed at Pop Century. My wife and I ordered the Double Cheeseburger which is only about $1 more than a regular cheesburger. I asked for an extra bun and was given the bun free of charge! When we sat at the table in the the food court, we made 2 burgers out of the 1 double burger w/extra bun, split the fries, and was able to feed 2 adults for $6.50 plus tax since we had the refillable mug from Pop Century anyway. I think I remember seeing that tip on Mousesavers.com. Some people report having to pay as much as $.80 for the extra bun at different counters throughout Disney. At Pop Century, they gave it to us for free. I've read that you can do this as well with a foot long hot dog....split it into 2 dogs.

Another tip...

My wife is not a big night-time eater. When we would eat dinner at a counter service restaurant, she would usually order an item from the kids menu. At Pop Century, she ordered the kids meal Sloppy Joe for around $4. It was the exact same thing as the adult Sloppy Joe meal @ $6+ except that she received potato chips as a side item instead of french fries. The burger itself was the same size.

Mary has some excellent tips at www.mousesavers.com . She talks about saving $1.50 on kids' meals by asking for the meal without the cheap plastic toy....and other tips.

I took a tip from her and this board and brought a Brita Fill & Go sports bottle to filter our water in the park. It worked great and saved us a ton of money since we didn't have to lay down $3 every time for bottled water.

~ trail's end is by far the best value in WDW. i've never done the chicken meal you mentioned, but the regular buffet is only like 15 bucks a head, and is literally loaded with food. you just roll yourself on the boat back to the MK and hope it doesn't sink from the extra weight you just took on.
~ i've also done the extra bun mentioned above, and it works great.
~ don't forget that if you don't want the fries from a meal, just say you want the sandwich. all of the meals you see at counter service places are availabe a la cart.
~ plan a day to go shopping at DTD. and while you're there stop at goofy's cany company (attached to the earl of sandwhich) for bfast. no, you're not having candy for bfast. you can get a bagel, muffin, scone, danish, etc for only like $1.85. couple that with a coffee or hot cocoa at a buck, and you have bfast under 3 dollars
~ a great, cheap snack in the parks are the fruit and fruit cups. they're not only very reasonably priced, but are a great change of pace from the fries and ice cream that you'll be eating.

another vote for trail's end..have gone at least once every trip for good inexpensive food..imo a picnic would be a fun idea and we love ft. wilderness for the calm, relaxed un theme park atmosphere. we also split a pizza at wolfgang puck express in dd, pizza was good sized and great and not real expensive ( by disney standards) pop century pizza delivery looked good and lots were gettting that when we stayed there. we used the q/c vouchers at pop and got great deals but the prices were good any way and plentiful food for only afew bucks more than we'd pay locally...if you take pop with you the picnic idea would be even cheaper.

We've never eaten the chicken meal at TE, but we have ordered the pizza to go several times. It's a great deal. We have had the chicken off the buffet, & at HDD, which is the same, & it's good. They have a couple picnic spots. There are picnic tables on the deck, around the corner from TE. You can also take your food down to the marina, where you will find more tables and chairs. We like to order a pizza, then go down to the marina, & watch the fireworks & EWP. FW is a quick boat ride from the MK. Have a great trip! :)

I'm not a big eater so I often order the kids meals (at counter service places). I especially like the one in Mexico (small taco/burrito & chips with small drink) and the one in Japan (1 skewer yakitori chicken and white rice and small drink). I have ordered the footlong hotdog for the kids and broke it in half. These are really huge. We love the fruit cups and get these often for a snack.

Casey's Corner at the MK is a cheap place to eat. Their hotdogs are $3-$4 and are big enough to for two people to share- load them up with toppings.

But, the best deal is their french fries are only $1.89, you can add chili/cheese or anything you want- yum! -Stephanie
