Crazy

No one is being FORCED into a more pricey time period. If the time you choose to rebook is more expensive, of course you bear the cost of that. You can choose any one of many ways to do this....rebook now, rebook now and change your booking if discounts during that time are posted. Cancel and get a refund and apply that to a future trip. There are lots of options. But whining about how you've been done wrong is an unproductive and untrue strategy. There are people who are critically ill and dying right now....

When people had to cancel due to hurricanes, they did not get their free dining honored during the non-free dining periods, nor did they get the 30% or whatever booking offer they originally had, unless these offers were available for the new dates. So, I would not expect them to have to give everyone the discount they were currently booked with unless that discount is already available during the new dates.

Having said that, here are some ways that you can get a good rate now (maybe even better than the rate you had for March 2020):
1. Room discounts are out through July 9th. Can you reschedule your trip by that date and apply one of the discounts?

2. Some times of the year are much cheaper than others. I like looking at Mousesavers Room rate charts
https://www.mousesavers.com/2020-disney-world-room-rates-season-dates/The cheapest times to go are Value (January and February, except for MLK, Marathon and President's Day weekends) and Value 2 (end of August through mid-September, excluding Labor Day weekend).

Our family vacation has become a nightmare. Sad enough our grandmother passes away and is buried on 3-11-2020. We tell our selfs and family nothing is gonna stop us from this well needed vacation to Disney world on 3-13-2020. Then this happened and we all just broke down crying. Everything is closed at Disney. Not only is everything closed but they are charging us extra money (1000$) to reschedule our vacation, when it’s not even our faults. How is this possible? Can anyone help us figure this out please?
I am sorry about your grandmother and the timing of this and your vacation. Perhaps you could cancel and rebook when things calm down a bit?

Isn’t today, 3/13/20, the day you were supposed to check in? Did you try to reschedule yesterday 3/12 (I suspect the phones were crazy,) if not, canceling day of arrival is different and generally more expensive, I believe.
Sorry you’re caught up in this fast changing scenario, hopefully they’ll find some accomodation.

Don’t get rude with the reps now they are dealing with upset, stressed, unhappy and rude people. Like others said if you book at a higher seasons or non discount time you’ll pay more.
I postponed a Mediterranean cruise on Tuesday. I’m still waiting for Lufthansa to confirm my rebooked airline ticket- they are dealing with those who are stuck first, I understand and it’s frustrating but it’s not worth getting so upset over.

I’m sorry about your grandmother. Wait a few days and see if Disney comes out with more information. This is less than 24 hours old and changing hourly.

Did you try to reschedule a moment before Disney announced the coronavirus shutdown?

If not, there may be more lower cost options for you.

You may delay until the flood and flurry of phone calls have died down and then call to inquire about options or refund.

We were scheduled to arrive on 3/19 and after the parks closed we canceled our trip and re-booked for October. Same resort, same amount of nights. We are paying a $1,000 more now too. I hope some discounts offset the increase for us.

Also exception not mentioned any letter A-Z. Otherwise it's a valu season

I’m so sorry for your loss.

Some will judge you for being upset about your predicament...1st world problems and all...I get how you feel. I would be frustrated and upset too. You just suffered a loss. You were looking forward to a vacation that was suddenly cancelled. You could really use a break right now, but instead find out that this very same vacation at a different time, not your choice, will cost another $1,000.

I agree that you should let the dust settle. Disney is in the middle of trying to accommodate a lot of upset people. I would try to figure out a better time to go that won’t be as expensive.

I hope you figure it out. Take care.

Looking at the prices on Mousesavers, mid March is some of the highest rates. So it sounds like you had a promotion. I would expect them to offer promotions later in the year.

It’s possible because we are in a world wide pandemic. While I am sorry for the loss of your grandmother, I have to point out that many people’s actual lives are becoming a nightmare right now. I get you’re upset & your grief is adding to that. No, it’s not your fault. But it isn’t Disney’s fault either. This is new uncharted territory for everyone. If you can’t afford your new dates, you have options: change dates, change resorts, go offsite or wait to see if discounts come out. Companies are getting hit with this too, but most, including Disney seem to be trying to work thru it & accommodate as best as they can.

I am assuming you rescheduled for dates that do not, currently, have any discounts or promotions running. I would suggest to just be patient. Once WDW gets through this and they determine they can re-open and function normally, we are bound to see discounts come out for fall and winter. I would not despair about the cost just yet. Honestly, I think they are so consumed with simply making sure people can cancel and/or reschedule right now. I don't think guest services is going to be able to handle special requests for any type of pricing adjustment at the moment.

While I respect everyone point of view, I must say unproductive is what you just did.

I disagree. It is common Disney knowledge that different dates have different rates. Nothing wrong with a reminder of that. I do hope that Disney does offer some sort of discount to those who have to re-book, but as quickly as things are happening right now, it may take them a while to get to that point.

Disney is swamped with 1000s of people rescheduling or canceling trips. Online or via phone. They can’t try to figure discounts for future dates right now. Everyone is worried about what is going on right now in the world. A discount for a future trip is not an immediate emergency. I’m on day 4 without a confirmed ticket on a November trip - yes I’d like it out of queue now BUT others trying to get home from places NOW need help more. Do I want to call - yes- but I’m going to wait.

People are being productive and telling you the same thing. It is going to take time to get through this. Disney does right. They are losing millions during this. Staff won’t be working. Just wait it out for a bit.

Remember there are many it your situation trying to rebook and have price differences because there is no discount now for those dates. You are not the only one. One persons trip is not more special than anyone else’s (except Make-a-Wish) The cast members can’t make them appear. Just wait....

Once again I’m sorry for your loss-
