I am looking to take advantage of the "discounted" points at Disneyland hotels late next June...

I just found a round trip rate of $224 out of Philly. Is it too early to plan for such a trip?

But, that's a great rate, right? :goodvibes

It's already been announced that those discounted points are in effect for all of 2006, so why not go for it? Have a great time there.

It's essentially a sale. The number of points that it actually takes to stay at the Disneyland Hotel in 2005 is less than the number cited in many of the reference materials. (This sale applies only to the Disneyland Hotel, not to the Grand Californian or Paradise Pier.) DVC has said that this reduced point rate for the Disneyland Hotel will continue through 2006. (The points costs for Grand Californian and Paradise Pier still aren't on sale in 2006, but they didn't increase from 2005, which is something.) I'm not sure offhand whether or not the 2006 reference materials reflect the reduced point cost for the Disneyland Hotel.

Thanks for the information about WDL. :wave2: I called the membership line and asked about reduced points for Feb. 2006 at Disneyland Hotel. She said it was only for 2005 and not for the new year. I'll call again to check. I hope it is for 2006 as well.

I'm certain I heard that the discount was being continued through 2006. The ostensible purpose for the discount was so people could go there for the 50th Anniversary celebration, and that celebration is in effect through 2006, so it makes sense that the discount would continue as well. That said, I don't recall exactly where I heard this, so I can't confirm that the informaiton is correct.

Does anyone have examples of the rates(in points) have been during the discount?

I have reserved two concierge rooms for four nights in February at the reduced rates. Look, Grandpa! I'm in a concierge room! Without the reduced point, I couldn't have upgraded.

Concierge rooms tend to save Grandpa (me) a fair amount of money on snacks, breakfast, drinks, etc.

On p.2 of the Fall Vacation Magic magazine that just arrived the other day at our house, it says in an article by Jim Lewis, SVP & GM of DVC, "That's why I'm so excited about the recently announced reduction in Reservation Point requirements for stays at the historic Disneyland Hotel through Dec. 31, 2006..."

on the 2006 points charts at the dvc member web site, the disneyland hotel is less points than paradise peir, so I assume it is still the reduced rate in 2006.

Okay. . . so are the points savings worth it? We've never been to DL and were considering a trip summer of 06 but thought the GC looked like the way to go. Anyone stayed at both places and can offer an opinion?

The first time I called I was told there was no discounted points. So (as everyone on these boards recommends) I called again, got a different person, and she confirmed that the DL Hotel is 23 points a night during the time I wanted to go - Feb. 2006. It's usually 31 points a night. I now have three nights at Disneyland where I've never been and it's during their 50th anniversary! I'm excited!!
Thanks for your help on these boards!!

P.S. I also got 2 Sky Saver free tickets to Los Angeles with my Delta SkyMiles, so this trip will be even better. :Pinkbounc

My wonderful husband and I just got back from Disneyland ... We stayed at the Disneyland Hotel. Saturday morning we woke up to no hot water ... none of the three towers in the hotel had hot water. It was fixed in a matter of hours, but my DH and I had plans to meet up with friends. So, we had to bathe in ice cold water.

A word of warning!! Every tower is under some form of construction with only one bank of elevators working. While we were there, only one of the two elevators was working.

However!!! At the end of a very long day, it was very refreshing to watch the DL fireworks from the comfort of the concierge lounge. :earsboy: :earsgirl:

You can forget about the convenience of the monorail too:

Disneyland refurbishment (8/21/05)
Anaheim, California. Closed since 1998, the once-popular Disneyland Submarine Voyage is being rebuilt to reopen as "Finding Nemo Submarine Adventure" in 2007. The lagoon has been drained and is currently being prepared for the new attraction. The Disneyland Monorail has cruised over the submarine lagoon since both attractions opened in June of 1959. According to Disney fansite Mouseplanet.com, the Disneyland Monorail will be closed for as much as a year starting in January 2006. The closure has not been officially announced by the Disney Company yet, but indications are that the system will go through a complete refurbishment. The track may get a similar treatment that monorail track over the former parking lot got when Disney's California Adventure (DCA) theme park was being built. Track was removed by crane, tested, refurbished and put back into place in the DCA area. While the bodies of the current Mark V trains were added in the late 1980s, the framework and undercarriages of the trains date back to the Mark III series introduced in 1968 (see picture). Last year Monorail Orange was totally rebuilt offsite and reverse engineered in preparation of a possible new fleet of trains. Will Mark VII trains be part of the refurbishment? And if so, what will the design of the trains look like? Will they sport a retro "rocketship with fins" look like Imagineer Bob Gurr's original Mark I, II and IIIs? More questions than answers at this point.

Is anyone else getting tired of the dangling carrots turning into rotten tomatoes?
