Our dd turns 11 on april 4th and she said last night "you know what we should do for my bday? Go to disney". I mentioned it to DH and his answer was "you guys should go". What??? am I crazy to think we could plan a short trip (thur/fri thru tues/wed) in a few weeks? Anyone ever done this?

We did a very last minute trip in 2014 right before Maelstrom closed. Literally, they made the announcement and I told DH I had to ride it one last time so less than two weeks later, off we went. With that in mind, riding Maelstrom was the ONLY must-do on our list for the trip. My point being, I guess, that, yes, you can do it, just keep your expectations low as to what you will be able to get in terms of ADR's, FP+, etc. If you are both ok with simply going to WDW and letting the cards fall where they may, go for it.

I planned a mid November trip around Halloween time so it's doable.

The issue I could see you having now though is that it's that you could run into spring break times (so it could be busy). Certainly wouldn't stop me from trying though!

Kinda depends on the "what you want to get out of a WDW trip" question. We are fortunate to get to go 2-3 times a year, so aren't hung up on doing everything WDW has to offer in any one trip. Heck, we could go and just enjoy the resort/pool and be pretty content. While I prefer planning at least at the 60 day mark for maximum FP+ availability, I see no reason why you can't have a very successful WDW trip on short notice. We planned a trip for DS's 5th birthday last summer just under 30 days out and we had a fantastic time, no qualms whatsoever. We were sitting around one night and realized we had done a poor job planning anything for his birthday...a few clicks later we had reservations. No issues with getting a couple of ADRs we wanted (keep checking closer to your trip) and took advantage of rope drop more so than FP+ to make the most of park time.

A potential downside is that it's spring break season and it could be crowded / hotel availability may be limited, but that's kinda the case all year anyway.

I'm a big fan of birthdays at WDW and a last minute trip is totally doable for an experienced WDW traveler.
