Crazy Question

No way! :)

It takes a miracle to get our three boys out the door and heading towards the park at a decent hour and those early morning hours are precious! My guys LOVE the Jimmy Dean biscuits for walking and eating. We also bring plenty of fruit, Odwalla Bars, oatmeal (we pack paper bowls because we're weirdos) and baggies of dry cereal.

When we're splurging, we buy a family pack of beignets at the Jazz Kitchen on the way through DTD and munch in those. At least, the boys do. My breakfast is usually an energy drink or a cup of coffee.

Well, we don't have early morning hours because we buy our tickets on a military base. I don't think it would matter anyway! I don't think we could get there that early. I'm girding my loins just to get there at regular park opening. I just know we are all going to be so tired. So, yes, it will be a miracle to get everyone up and ready and moving at a decent hour.

OK, embarrassing question? What is a beignet? It sounds like something that will go straight to my butt. ;)

I haven't had one yet they are on my MUST list this trip:

Yup, they're going straight to my butt! But I'm having them too. And my husband, oh what a sweet tooth he has, especially for pastries. I don't see him passing those up. Thing only thing is, we don't come in through DTD. Can you buy them anywhere else?

There are beignets in Disneyland. They are shaped like Mickey. You can buy them at the Mint Julep bar, a take-out window on the backside of the French Market restaurant in New Orleans Square. They are also served at Cafe Orleans, but that is a sit-down location. There is much discussion on this board about which beignets taste better. I've had both and like both just fine. My opinion is to go with whatever is easier to get to and "wastes" the least time.

They sell them at the mint julep bar in Disneyland. If you go during the holiday season, you must try the gingerbread ones!

I'm with you! Don't waste time! :thumbsup2 It's precious!

Oh. I probably should have been clearer. The taste debate is between the Mickey ones and DtD ones. The Mickey ones inside the park at the two different locations are the same beignets. The Mint Julep bar ones are served in a paper bag with powdered sugar, and the Cafe Orleans ones are served with dipping sauces. Anyway, I most often eat the Mickey beignets from the Mint Julep bar because I'm in the park at the right time more often than I am in DtD at the right time. I haven't had the Cafe Orleans ones because I know they're basically the same, I tried Cafe Orleans once for dinner and had a lousy experience, and I wouldn't want to waste precious park time having a sit-down experience for beignets. :)

This is cruel!

DCA opens at 8 on the 19th.
The Jazz Kitchen website gives their hours:
Creole Cafe Beignets & Coffee to go...
8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.

Since I'll only have one day at the park, I'll have to go with a shot at RSR instead of beignets.

We ate at Cafe Orleans in Dec. 2011 I wouldn't call it a lousy experience, but we had a very long wait. We had a party of 11, very difficult to seat. I made reservations way in advance from home, but wasn't informed on the phone to choose inside or outside and having never been to DLR (well, at least since I was in 8th grade) I didn't know to ask. It was chilly and dark at the time of our res. and we didn't want to sit outside. So we waited at least an hour, even though we had reservations. But, we all liked our meal. I had the Monte Cristo. It was awesome! My ds had the seafood crepe and loved it. It seems like some the DLR restaurants don't really have much capacity for seating inside. Wine country trattoria is another one that we had to wait and wait even with res. And I thought the food there was very average. Won't go back. That is a waste of time.

Is that something special? As far as I know, you can order beignets at the Jazz Kitchen, both the sit-down and counter service places, all day long. I know I've gotten them from the Express location at 1:30 in the afternoon as dessert after Earl of Sandwich.

I know this is totally off topic, but since I'm a woman who rambles and I started this thread, I'm doing it! I keep reading about the Earl of Sandwich. Where is it and what is so great about it? Is there a birthday special something or other? Thanks!

We went in 2008 for my birthday. The check-in CM was rude, but I passed that off to her being stressed by the holiday crowds. We were put at an inside table next to the kitchen without being asked a preference, and I wished I'd pushed to be outside and don't know why I didn't ask. Our food took a really, really long time to arrive. The pommes frites were cold and limp. The other food was unexceptional. The kids' meal was too small for what we paid. After the food arrived, we never saw our waiter again until he brought the bill. We had to flag down a busboy for extra napkins and drink refills. Cold food, uninteresting food, lackluster service, some rudeness. I know it was a long time ago, but I just can't summon the interest to return. We have so many favorites in the parks and DtD, we figure why bother.

We liked Earl of Sandwich. It's, I guess, a somewhat famous chain based in the east. I think the DtD one is it's first California location. I know there are locations in DtD WDW and in Las Vegas too. For Disneyland, it's reasonably priced good quality food. My boys really liked the meatball sandwiches. I've tried the Full Montagu and the Chipotle Chicken Avocado without the chipotle lol. The sandwiches are large and filling, and the ingredients taste fresh.

You get sent a coupon for a free sandwich for your birthday if you join their e-club. DH used his when we were there last month.

Like all restaurants, I think the outcome can vary. I'm with you though. If I have a bad experience, that's it. That's how we feel about the Wine Country Trattoria. Long wait and mediocre food. I'm sure some people love it though. We are thinking of eating offsite for dinner. We have a party of 10 and that just creates difficulties with seating for some of the smaller places. It's walking distance to Tony Roma's and Mimi's Cafe. We'll see how we feel.

Oh, and thanks for the info here. :) My ds13 turns 14 on July 17, a few days before we arrive so I guess I could get him a coupon. It sounds yummy!

I don't see why this would be a problem. Our party of three (teenagers) will be lining up well before opening to be there for rope drop. We will be packing juice, muffins, croissants etc to eat once we make it to security/ the gates. Definately a time saver!! Just make sure when you bring a muffin for breakfast, you actually eat it. Unlike me last time who was to excited to eat anything so put it in my bag for later, only to discover when I went to eat it that while we were on the Winnie the Pooh ride I had been sitting on it at the bottom of my bag! :rotfl2:

You'd be crazy if you didn't! Seriously, I'd rather have an extra fifteen minutes sleep than eat at my hotel anytime!

OK, another off topic question. I hope I don't get in trouble! When you send your kids ahead to wait in line do you join them, essentially passing up other people who have been waiting in line? And if so, do you get dirty looks, grumbling, nasty comments?

Good advice about the muffin ::yes:: doens't sound too appetizing. :)
