Crazy person thinks she can do the 1/2 marathon!

You've probably already done this, but I waited a couple of months before buying Target quality workout wear and a goodish ($60-level) pair of shoes. When I realized how much more comfortable I was in more appropriate gear, I wished I'd done it from the getgo!

So true! I used to try to walk or work out in skanky tee shirts (old "hey want a free tee shirt" type tees) and cheap leggings, but when I got serious about this, the first thing I did was buy a tech tee from JCP. What a difference! No chafing, no being soaked by the end of a walk/run, plus they're just really comfy! I'm still on the hunt for a good pair of compression pants/tights, but for now, I've got a pair of Danskin workout pants tht are doing fine.

Check JCP or Target - I can vouch for JCP and lots of folks here love Targets stuff!

Thanks for the input. Payday is Friday - I'll have to see what I can find. I live in Florida, so it's gonna start getting real hot soon...

Found some Danskin stuff at Walmart - Dri More. The JC Penney stuff was too matchy matchy looking. LOL

Thanks for the encouragement! Right now, I'm walking 3-4 miles a day, but my pace is slow. I still need to lose 70-80 pounds. I'm concentrating on walking more right now, to lose the weight. Then, I figure in the fall, I will start working on one of the half marathon training programs to get my pace down.

It sounds like a good plan to start with walking and losing the weight. Good luck and keep us up to date on your progress. Loads of people walk the Disney races and that is a great option too. Most of all, have fun while you see the pounds drop and you need to buy new clothes! :thumbsup2

I'm in Fl too! I dread the thought of running outside in August!

Danskin's dri-more is great - I have a pair of bootcut pants that I've been wearing. I also found JCP to be too 'fashiony' too! There are some basics there, though...

did you get any Danskin tops at Walmart? I am interested in whether they are as moisture-wicking as some tech tees I've seen.

This is my first Floridian summer, and I can say without a doubt that I'm a little worried about the heat if I've found running after work this WINTER to be too much. I run along the beach and when I get too hot, I go for a swim... er... float.

Although I guess I can't complain too much when this is the view alongside my route:

Hi ladies-:wave2:

I've been running in the Florida heat for 17 years now (after transplanting from CT) and just like anything else, you get used to it. I try to run my routes so I'm never too far from a drinking fountain (I hate carrying anything) and always look for the shady side of the street. Sprinklers are always a convenience too if you don't mind the weird looks you get from the neighbors:laughing::laughing:. You may not be able to run quite as fast as you normally would, but just give yourself time to get acclimated. Plus I look at it as the more you sweat, the more those ugly little fat cells are being burned up!
