So our County has declared that Trick or Treating will be Sunday on Halloween night. The Sheriffs office has put out the word and it was printed in the local paper last week. But my subdivision has declared that Trick or Treating is Saturday. I called the Homeowners President and told her that the County has said it is Sunday so people will be flocking to the neighborhood on Sunday and she said there will be no passing out candy on Sunday. I told her we would be. And we would be Trick or Treating on Sun as well. We may have to go to another neighborhood though.

So your neighborhood association is telling people they can't hand out candy on Halloween :confused3

Another reason I am glad I don't live in an area with a HOA. Why would they do this? It is only going to cause major confusion for everyone??

My sister's subdivision is doing a similar thing- having trick or treat on a different night. I guess they don't want crowds of kids from all over town and are saying this night is just for kids who reside there.

Actually she did. When I told her the rest of the county was going Sun and so were we, she said we weren't going in our neighborhood and I said, "Yes we are".

They did tell her it was her decision to hand out candy on the real TOT night.

I think it's my decision too and I will be here with candy on Sunday. I think I will put up a sign :Trick or Treat here on Oct 31".

Seriously for safety issues you guys need to get that straight. As we know there are plenty of wackos all over, but on Halloween the sex offenders are especially monitored. Not sure about all over, but in our area they have to stay inside with their outside lights off and have to post a sign. The police ride around and monitor these houses for safety reasons. Maybe you should mention this to the HOA person. G/l with that stuff-- it would be nice to have it on Sat. night, but for safety I'd stick with the rest of the town.

HOA is so ridiculous sometimes.

Honestly, I'd pass out candy on that Saturday, if anyone even shows up. I'd leave a bowl of it out on the 31st and enjoy ToT in a different neighborhood!

Good for you :thumbsup2 what did she say when you told her? I picture some snooty woman with a bun so tight her eyes are barely opened, just glaring at you and turning with a "well hhmph, suit yourself" and walking briskly away to talk about you with her quilting bee friends. Don't tell me if thats not how it went, I don't want to ruin the picture

How many sex offenders do you suppose live in the OP's development, and if there are any do you really think that in a sub-division with an HOA the residents wouldn't know exactly who they are and where they live?

We actually have a few friends that live in the real rural parts of our county that always come to dinner at our house on Halloween and then we all sit outside and pass out candy together while the husbands take the kids trick or treating. I am still planning on doing that.

I read this too fast after luvmy3's post and thought you were saying that you have some sex offenders over for dinner on Halloween to hand out candy with you :lmao::lmao::lmao:

Well then, for safety's sake she better let the HOA know :lmao:

I think I would call the police community service officer and see if perhaps they would have a chat with the HOA and strongly advise her to go along with the sanctioned night by the town. There may be some ordinance in place that would cover it and if nothing else they could speak to her and advise her that if she does it on another night there won't be extra police on patrolling for problems or speeders and that the general community would not be aware and it would be dangerous for your children because drivers wouldn't know to be looking for them

Add this to the reason I would never be in a HOA!!!!!

What is this trend of moving Halloween?
Halloween has always been observed on October 31, and yes, once every 7 years that falls on a Sunday.
What next? Move Christmas? New Years Day on a bad day for you? Let's move it too.

Well I called a couple other members of the board and some neighbors and they weren't aware that they county had designated Oct 31 as trick or treating and see having it here a different night as a huge nightmare. The Secretary will talk to the woman and tell her they want it on Sunday even though it was previously decided for Sat. So we'll see.

The only sex offenders the HOA would know about are those who have already been caught and convicted. Of course, that's nowhere near 100% of all sex offenders, since most commit several offenses before getting caught. Just sayin'. Although I'm not really sure why Halloween would be Watch Out for Sex Offender Night anyway... do you guys let your kids go into people's houses when they're TOTing?

Exactly my point, that the HOA would know about them. I'm pretty sure those who haven't been caught aren't going to be hanging a sign out front warning kids and their parents that a sex offender lives in the house. The pp's concern was that since the HOA was going to observe Halloween on Saturday that the sex offenders wouldn't have their signs out and the police wouldn't be patroling since they would all expect the kids to be out on Sunday.

What I would like to know is the statistics on how many children are molested, or worse on Halloween night. I'm guessing its like those statistics about how many kids are poisoned by candy or find a razor blade in their apple ;)
