OK...Here it is...I had (some) upper teeth removed and have a temporary "Flipper" before I get implants...Although by the time I go to Disney (Nov 27) I could have the implants... I have chosen to wait until after my (trips) just in case I have any trouble with them. I did have two implants before and went right into work afterwards, but these would be into my sinus cavaties and I was told I would also have grafts (from cavaders)...:scared1:I'd rather be around home for a while after this procedure.

My problem is....the "Flipper"....I am afraid to ride any rides like Thunder Mountain, Space Mountain...Expediton....Even Tower or Terror...just in case the "Flipper" flips out...I would be sooooooo embarassed! I thought about quickly slipping them out while in line and putting them in a case in my purse...and just try not to talk to people or smile...or else...just not go on any of them...I don't know...Never had to worry about this before:worried::worried:

I would slip them out. Just have fun, don't be embarrassed. My theory is you'll probably never see any of those people again. So make a game of it and have a very magical experience with your grandchild.

Not sure I can speak to your exact situation....but...I have seen a good number of folks lose items like sunglasses on rides. I have no idea the likelyhood of your flipper coming out, but when stuff does fall it can be a pain.

If you think it best to remove it before big rides, then remove it.
I woudn't let it stop you from going on any rides. As others have said, they are totla strangers you'll porbably never see again. Have fun!

Is there any other kind of back up solution maybe? I have no idea how expensive flippers are, but what about a back up flipper just in case you lose/break it? (Ya' know - It'd potentially be worth $20 to me to have a back up but not $3000, say.) I've brought back up items lots of times to WDW.

The idea also popped in my head that maybe you could find cheap plastic fake teeth this time of year at a costume shop.

I have no idea what a flipper is but can you use denture paste to hold it in?

And don't open your mouth on Space Mountain.

That's all I got.

My family has horrible teeth. Thin enamel, easy to decay and poor gum circulation despite good oral care and preventative dentistry. My uncle, now is in his late 40's, has had full dentures for a few years now. My G-Ma had to get a full set when she was expecting my mother (she had an infection, the meds she took has a very bed effect on her mouth) in her mid 20's. Point? You are there to have a good time. Rock it out and don't worry about being embarassed. There is every kind of disability, body type, personality, etc. at Disney. Everyone is there to have a good time. So smile *your* smile, be it big and toothy or closed mouth and pinched. Its yours!!!

, :)

Thanks everybody! I appreciate your support and suggestions....The flipper that I have on attatches by wire hooks on too my other remaining teeth....but, sometimes, when I am eating or when I "play with it" with my tongue, it can come out very easily. People say they can't tell that I am wearing it, but, I sure notice....:rolleyes2

I just turned 60 and I was told when I was 20 that I would have false teeth before I became 30...so, I guess I should be thankful.....I have been going to the dentist(s) on a regular basis all my life....So, at least I know I did the best that I could....I think I will run to a bathroom before getting in a line and put it in its case while I am in there....Then, afterwards...I'll go to the bathroom again...and put them back on....

After all...I am 60 now...and need to go to the bathroom more often!:laughing:

OP, the flipper attachment sounds a lot like the way my DH's partial plates attach. He never has any problems with the plates coming out on rides (although he can pop them out with his tongue when he wants), and I don't think your flipper would be an issue either. If you are worried about the flipper coming out, just keep your mouth closed on the rides.

When I was at Disney last summer, I had a flipper, and it was the kind that doesn't attach, so I had to remove it to eat. It never came out on rides even when I screamed and laughed on BTMR. Carry the case for it in your pocket or purse, and if you are nervous, just slip it in there while you are on line. And there were several days I didn't bother with the flipper because of the eating issue, and no one stared at me (of course, it was for an eye-tooth, so it wasn't too obvious). I'll never see those people again, so what do I care. And honestly, I saw things a lot less attractive at WDW than just a person missing a tooth:scared1:

My graft was artificial bone. Have you looked into that if you don't want a cadaver graft?

Have a great vacation!

Gosh...I didn't know I had the option of having an artifcial graft...They never said anything about that...Only offered the one from a cadaver. I wonder what the difference would be?

My eye tooth and a back tooth were holding up a bridge for 30 years...Those two teeth had to be removed...therefore...I don't have that bridge any more...That is what is missing...I do have trouble eating with the flipper...

I got used to my DH without his "flipper" for about 6 months!! He lost his four front teeth in an accident while stationed in Iraq, and they had to do a bone graft (took it from his bottom jaw) because his upper was inadequate for the implants. He was so uncomfortable with his flipper, that he decided to just go toothless until the implants could be put in.

I just got back from the dentist...I have to have another tooth pulled on top...which means I will have another temporary....Has to heal for two or three months...Then...have implants AND another flipper on the bottom.....If you saw me, you wouldn't know anything was wrong...but, I see it! To this day, my husband has never seen me without the flipper...Now, my grandchildren have...If they want to see me without the flipper, they have to pay me 10 cents!

I feel like the bionic woman...in my mouth.....:lmao:

That reminds me of my Grandpa, who had a full set of dentures, we were equally horrified and delighted when he stuck his teeth out at us!!

I mentioned they took bone from the bottom of my DHs mouth...they stretched him bottom lip out so far, and for so long it killed a bunch of nerves. Now he can't fill his bottom lip at all. I'm constantly having to pat his lip, or point at it for his napkin. He can be oblivious if there's food dripping on his bottom lip! :goodvibes Kind of takes the fun of "making out" with someone that can't feel half the kiss!

with the OP's luck, it would fly off the moment the cameras take pictures on a ride. Priceless.

I got the "flipper" right before my trip last year, and still had it on this years trip! A "permanent partial" or another trip to WDW...I went with the trip. I always use just a small amount of Fixodent everyday. It never came out on any rides, and I SCREAM every time I do Splash Mountain (it's my fav). I wouldn't worry about it too much. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Wow...I didn't know you could put that on with a flipper! Can you pull the flipper out very easily then in the evening after you are back into your room?

omigod - you sound like me! I just turned 62 and had a dentist tell me the exact same thing when I was around 20. I just had to have a tooth removed due to an abscess and bone loss. My dentists didn't do a full bone graft and so they said an implant wouldn't work. So now I have a "permanent bridge" (front teeth). But I'm so amazed to find someone else like me!!! I'm not crazy about the permanent bridge - if I ever win the lottery I'll have periodontal plastic surgery to make my gums look better. I didn't have a "flipper" so I have no advice on that. Seems like better safe than sorry! Stick it in your pocket and smile! That'll be a picture you'll laugh at for years to come :goodvibes

It is comforting to know there are other people like me out there! :rotfl2: If I have a mishap while at Disney...I'll be sure to let everybody know.....If any of you all knew me...you'd know that I am like Lucille Ball...Somethng is ALWAYS happening to me.....Just down right funny things...My friends and family are always saying..."It can only happen to YOU!"....:lmao:

I had a "flipper" for years and did have it fly out once due to G-forces! :thumbsup2 Just resist the urge to open your mouth and scream...you should be just fine. :goodvibes
