What's the craziest thing you have had confiscated, asked to return to your car, or at least questioned by security when trying to enter a park?

One time they told me I couldn't enter with an old roll of electrical tape I had floating around in my backpack. At the time I was very confused, both by why I had it in there in the first place and also by why they wouldn't want it in the park. After that trip it finally dawned on me that I guess you could use electrical tape to change or black out signs in the park.

I'm curious, what's your crazy/odd/miscellaneous item that was prohibited from entering the parks?

I mean, or bind someone's wrists to hold them hostage....

Hey, just saying—seems like a fair point to make when the premise is that the worst thing you could do with electrical tape is cover up some signs. Or maybe I’ve just seen too many spy movies :)

You're actually totally right, that never even crossed my mind!

Security at AK questioned my husband about the golf cart key. The golf cart that we rented at Fort wilderness. He had put the key in the little bin before going through the metal detector and the security person questioned it, asking to see what it was.

My brother got stopped for a whistle. It was one of those whistles where you can open it and store something (probably matches) in the inside. He had simply used it as a container to put some medication in, not even thinking about that it was actually a whistle. Apparently they don't want you competing with the Donald Duck quacking noisemakers...

This is actually a really interesting difference between the psychologies of men and women. Since women are much more likely to be the victim of violence than men, we tend to be much more aware of potential for danger.

I had a guard tell us we were going to have to leave our bag of snacks.....so yes, many of them are very into the magic. (I had one at AK though who I would’ve reported to supervision if we weren’t trying to rope drop....) And DH lost his Swiss Army knife (a gift from me when we first married) at airport security...the bonehead! And I just kept asking him “now you didn’t stick that Coke in your backpack, right? Cuz you can’t carry that through....” Never thought I had to ask about knives.

I agree. It's crazy how that happened two years ago and the thought of using it violently never crossed my mind until this thread.

Haha, my DH did the same thing woth his engraved pocket knife at a baseball game AFTER I reminded him not to bring it. Luckily they were nice and let him leave it at will call and claim it at the end.

A security CM once took everything out of my backpack and was questioning me as to why I was carrying TWO water bottles as a solo traveler. She kept going on about how heavy they were and why would I need two (they are insulated, full of ice, and I don’t want to waste time refilling them every hour in the crazy September heat). They are only 18oz each with half of it being ice.

No CM has ever dumped my entire bag before or questioned anything. Many CMs actually comment how well organized everything is and can tell I’m a regular since I organize most items in clear bags, unzip everything, and even have a clear holder for my eyeglasses.

A few days later she was the CM checking my bag at a different location and barely looked inside. Weird....

I had a security officer tell me I couldn't bring my car keys with key chain that had a Minnie ear on it, into the park because they would be seen as a weapon. I was very confused because it was a key chain I purchased in the parks & only had my car key on it. He allowed me through with it, but told me not to take it out until I left the park & was at my car. That was about 5 years ago. I still have the key chain. I have not been told that since.
