Craziest table mates you have had.

Just a wishing well wish -- it would be great if Disney made it so that you had to request a table with others if you wanted to socialize, otherwise the norm would be a table alone ;)

We never had table mates until cruise #10. It wasn't terrible and I could see how it *could* be awesome. For us...based on our experience....I think I'd rather sit alone. Even if I cruised solo - alone. Unless I knew 100% what I was facing I'd rather not go there. Sometimes I don't feel like talking or chatting. I can tell my husband not to talk to me and he won't take it personally. LOL!

I would be afraid to go into specifics here about table mates. What if they read it???? I wouldn't want to hurt any feelings. Same reason DH & I didn't request a solo table after the first night. What if we hurt the table mates' feelings???? The final night if our cruise we were mostly over eating so much so we skipped MDR dinner (hubby delivered tip envelopes to head server after early seating). I will admit, partially I just didn't feel like being social. LOL!

must have been new yorkers......

;)

I see you're from NY, too, and it was a joke, but in general New Yorkers like order. It's generally all the tourists in NY that give NY a bad name. ;)

I had to go to NYC for a week on business. I found the people generally to be quite nice. The only exceptions were attorneys and any New Yorker placed behind the wheel of an automobile. :lmao:

I think my husband will be the awkward table guest. I am shy at first but after I get a feel for the group, I can become animated. We were very lucky to be seated with 4 other like minded women last September on the Dream! I still keep in touch with 2 of them since we're on FB together :)

I just hope my husband isn't going to stop in his tracks and be a stick in the mud.

yes but she did say:

The table was occupied by a family it appeared who didnt speak english

so very possible they were from NY....

And all the crazy non-English speaking cab drivers! Car sickness at its finest :rotfl:

separate tables would take up A LOT of room...virtually un-do-able as a norm, i think..............

Oh I realize that, and I've never had any issues with sharing a table with others on prior cruises on Disney nor elsewhere. My daughter and I are taking a 7-day cruise this coming March and I'm debating on whether to ask for our own table or not. I'm leaning towards just going with the assigned seating and see how it plays out.

We have been on about 15 cruises and have shared a 4-top, an 8-top and have had our own table. We much prefer a table to ourselves. I think we are nice, sociable people....but maybe others don't think so. It seems like when we have shared tables, it becomes a game of oneupmanship. We end up hearing about their fabulous jobs, vacations, kids, etc. The conversation becomes very one sided since I just don't like talking about myself!

Another time we were seated at a table for 8 including a man who used a wheelchair and needed help eating. One of the other couples asked to be moved since he made them feel "uncomfortable." They told us so that we wouldn't think they moved because of us. I felt so bad for the man who used a wheelchair!

The first time we traveled with our two young nieces we asked for a table alone. The youngest was very shy and I was afraid she would freak out if strangers sat with us at our table. We LOVED having a table alone! Since that time we always ask for our own table. I don't even like being seated with others at breakfast or lunch. Maybe I am unsociable!!

On our last cruise, we had a table for 8 as we had traveled with friends who matched up with us perfectly, mom dad and 2 kids same ages. We had a few bumps in the MDRs though. The 8 top next to us allowed their children to wander around and constantly knock into our chairs and disrupt our meals and conversations. The table was occupied by a family it appeared who didnt speak english and it was apparent they were not happy about anything. Our servers were constantly running around them trying to make them happy to no avail. We had gotten a table right night to a screen in AP and we enjoyed it. So we were looking forward to our second night in AP. When we arrived and went to our table, we were a bit shocked to see it wasn't our table anymore and our servers were a bit stumped too. The other family decided they wanted our table and took it upon themselves to move the table numbers. No one asked them to move and our party just sat at their first table like good little vacationers. :confused3:confused3:confused3
When we got home and looked at all of our pictures we noticed that our next door dining neighbor - the Father - was the same guy who at Sail Away party literally pushed my dd10 at the time and our friends daughter who was 4 out of his way and moved his entire family in front of them to watch the show.
I am not a rude person and recognize everyone is on the ship for the same reason. It bothered me but we just moved and some nice people let the girls move up so they could see. You have to let things like this go or you don't stand a chance having fun at WDW.
You should've went to the family at the wrong (your) table, and obliviously sat on their laps. :rotfl:

On our honeymoon in October 1996 we went on our first cruise together on RCCL's Majesty of the Seas-7 day western. Tons of honeymooners on the trip. We were at a 6 top with two other honeymooning couples. One of them was from Las Vegas, and she was a "Cocktail Waitress".
Thay had had books of matches printed up for their wedding reception with their names on them, but the printer spelled the groom's name wrong so they read "Congratulations Doan (Dean) and Jessica". they had a box of a couple hundred of these incorrect matchbooks with them-I guess the luggage screening was pretty lenient back then. I called him Doan the whole cruise. We had some really lively dinners and they would order tons of shots for the table.
We also ran into them accidentally in every port-sometimes on the beach (Where Jessica would attempt to go topless regardless of the rules of that island and get in trouble), once at Carlos and Charlie's in Cozumel.
Our photo album from that trip cracks us up every time we look at it.
Fast forward 17 years (and a few cruises) and we are on the Fantasy with DD7 (at the time) and our table mates have an adorable 7 year old boy. They sat together at every show a few rows in front of us (and his parents) and shared popcorn and candy.
From the topless cocktail waitress to our 7 year old's first "boyfriend"-pretty funny if you ask me.

What a nice story, although I'll admit I was waiting for the parents of the boy to be Doan and Jessica!:goodvibes
