I am member of a committee for a Charitable Trust. We are looking at providing school supplies for a back to school effort in our community. One of the requested items is crayons (of course). However we would need to buy 750 boxes AND we are wanting to provide 12000 pencils as well. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get crayola crayons cheap outside of them being loss leaders for all the back to school sales?

Did you contact Crayola directly for either a donation or a deal? You never know...
They are located in Easton Pa...

I would really suggest talking to the manager of your local Walmart. Crayola 24ct and pencils are always big items for them in the back to school season. maybe you can work out an arrangement with the manager for a deal since you are purchasing such a large quantity.

I'll second contacting Crayola directly.
Another option is to talk to the Staples Manager- they always have those on super sales around here (like .25) so they might work out a bulk purchase with you.

Good luck.

Personally, I really dislike Crayola. The colors and feel of Prang crayons make me much happier, and we seek them out.

And they are less expensive.

I mailed Crayola last year to ask to buy a large quantity of Red only crayons for a client who would only color with Red. They wound up sending me FOR FREE a large package full of red crayons. Try sending them an email and ask for a discount.

Another option would be to find a store with a rewards program and try to negotiate a discount. I believe Staples has one, or try to order through a website to get cash back

A lot of the budget-saving bloggers write all the time how they ask the manager at their local Wal-Mart, Kroger, etc. to special order extra of things for them. You could ask now and they might make a note and tell you to come back during the back-to-school sales. Our Wal-Mart usually has them for 10cents/pack. The manager would probably prefer a special order than you cleaning out all their stores...and because it's for a good cause they may be willing to donate some. Good Luck! What a great project!

Can you ask the different stores for donations?? I know Target will sometimes donate items so it would be worth it to ask.

Now's the time to do that. We're two months away from the start of the back to school sales. They can add your order in if you don't need them for two months.

Are you supplying them to the school or the children. You could buy class packs they come in bulk. I would contact crayola first and do it now it. SSWW sells in bulk you could also contact them. I would also contact your local school district and see if you can work out a arrangement with them with their supplier.

:lmao: When we lived in Texas my DD Kindergarten teacher wanted Prang crayons. 8 stores later and 60 miles we found them! :rotfl:

They were really cool tho, just hard to find! :thumbsup2

Thanks for all the suggestions....we have since found out that the backpacks that are being donated by Office Depot have crayons and glue already in them. So now we are going to be looking at meeting another supply need instead. It sounds like the best bet is to go to any of our local places to see if they can work out a discount with us.

I don't know when you need them, but WalMart starts their back to school sales in July. The crayons are usually about $.24 and pencils are real cheap. I would talk to one of the managers and see if they will give you a deal if you need them before that. Good luck!

OT:
I used to love Crayola crayons but last year as a Mother's Day gift, my husband got me a large box of Crayolas and several Disney coloring books...(it was a sweet present) but to my dismay the crayons weren't what I remembered at all. They were overly waxy without very much color. I even wrote the company to ask if they've changed their formula. I got a nice form letter reply and a $5 coupon (which was a generous gesture) but I was disappointed at the quality.
