Jrsy, I await your "few anecdotes". Sounds like fun to say the least, coming from you! When Ted and I get back maybe we can have another dinner with everyone and save you the Cosmo postage! Jrsy, Cristi, Heidi are you up for another one? And then, we will have to do it again when we get back to transfer him on to Cristi. Do the rest of you have Cosmo plans for me to add to the front page?

I am glad I made you guys laugh. :cool1:

To answer the question about the weather and headaches. YES!! It has to do with the barometric pressure. Some people can not adjust to the pressure changes when it is a sudden change. Therefore they get headaches and some will get migraines.

Jrsy glad you had a good trip. We await your tip report and pictures...

I hope everyone has fun on their trips this week!!!!

Our youngest son's (Elvis) b-day is this weekend! He and I are going to a Preview of Bridge to Teribethia this morning. And then our family is coming over tomorrow afternoon for cake!

Some Cosmo photos to tide you over until I can get to my trip report:

Day One, Thursday, February 01 - Part One

First, let’s go back to Day Zero, Wednesday, around 4 pm when Tammy listened to a voicemail after picking Alex up from school which told us that our connecting flight from Atlanta to Orlando for the next morning had been cancelled. Luckily, we had already been rebooked onto another flight an hour later, which wasn’t too bad. She called me, I got on the Delta website and changed our seat assignments and we were good to go. When I got home from work, we finished up the last of the packing and got everything ready to go. Around 10:15, we went and picked up Tammy’s mom and headed to the airport. Once there, we unloaded our luggage, said goodbye to Tammy’s mom and she took our car home so that it wouldn’t be sitting at the airport all week. We went inside to find no line at the Delta counter, which was no surprise at around 11pm.

Checked in without incident but someone came in just after us who must have been catching the same flight to Atlanta. I was surprised to overhear him asking as he checked in whether it was true what he’d heard about Atlanta being snowed in. As we headed for the security check-in, I laughed as I told Tammy that I hoped the guy had gotten dropped off because clearly he had just come from the bar. Atlanta snowed in indeed…

By the way, when you are not flying direct, do you ever think to check the weather in the city you will be flying through? We’d been tracking the weather in Denver and Orlando for the last week, but never once looked at the forecast for Atlanta. I’m just saying…

So we get through security quickly and we’re soon at the gate waiting to get on our flight. Just before we are set to board, the Delta employee at the gate announces that it is currently 9 degrees in Denver and 30 degrees in Anchorage, Alaska! You can imagine we were pretty anxious to get to Florida.

We boarded and immediately tried to get to sleep, which I think we all did successfully. It was as we were beginning our descent into Atlanta that we first started to hit turbulence that I doubt anyone was sleeping through. There was a point where it was nearly surreal as it felt like the plane might drop out of the sky at any moment. Tammy and I were sitting there wide-eyed and clutching our armrests while on the other side of me, Alex had his hands thrown up in the air as if he was on a roller coaster and was saying something along the lines of “Whoo…I can feel it in my guts!”

We landed safely and quickly realized that it was pouring down rain. We weren’t concerned until we got off the plane and looked at the nearest departure board and didn’t see our connecting flight listed. Several people had gathered around at this point and some couldn’t find their flights and some saw that their flights had been cancelled. We started to stress. A nearby Delta employee opened up a computer terminal and started checking flight information. We were relieved to learn that our flight was still listed as “on time” but the gate had changed. We headed to the other end of the airport still feeling somewhat stressed because we had heard that a lot of flights had been cancelled.

In the other concourse, we found an arrival/departure board and realized the extent of the weather impacts. There were more red “cancelled” flights than we could count but, luckily, ours was still showing “on time.” We made it to our gate and settled in to wait. The TVs were all tuned to CNN, so we were getting the scoop on the weather regularly. There was an ice storm just north of Atlanta moving to the northeast and the word was that basically at about the time we were sitting there, they were deciding whether it would impact the airport or not. Delta had already cancelled 200 flights, but it sounded as though it was mostly flights between Atlanta and anywhere to the northeast.

We had over two hours to kill, so I unpacked the portable DVD player my mom had sent Alex for his birthday and he settled in to watch “Ed, Edd & Eddy” and laugh loudly. I was reading and Tammy was “resting her eyes.” We were pleased when our flight started boarding and we got out on time. We got into Orlando without any further incidents, made our way to the main terminal and headed down to catch Disney’s Magical Express to Port Orleans French Quarter. We were pretty wiped out, but still had just about all of Thursday ahead of us.

Tammy and I were sitting there wide-eyed and clutching our armrests while on the other side of me, Alex had his hands thrown up in the air as if he was on a roller coaster and was saying something along the lines of “Whoo…I can feel it in my guts!”
:rotfl2: I don't know why, but that statement made me laugh uncontrollably!!!

Yay, Jrsy came through and helped me through my Monday morning. What a stressful start to what is supose to be a nice relaxing vacation!! (However, relaxing a Disney vacation can be!!!) I would be so stressed out at that time but it sounds like you guys did a good job at keeping calm and Alex entertained!! :cool1:

Day One, Thursday, February 01 - Part Two

We made it to POFQ and checked in, then headed to the DCL desk to check in for the cruise, also. We opted for the Sunday morning pick-up at Animal Kingdom but passed on the breakfast so we wouldn’t have to get there as early. We were pleasantly surprised to each receive a DCL lanyard and two pins each, even though we are not into the pin trading. We found our room and were pleased with the location as it was pretty close to the bus stop, then we headed over to the food court to get some lunch. Tammy thought it would be a good idea to get the refillable mugs and, I admit, I balked at the idea, thinking we wouldn’t be drinking that much soda. She then pointed out that they could also be filled with coffee, which quickly sold me on the idea.

Once we had eaten, we were ready to hit the parks. We had initially planned to just do AK on Sunday morning as we had the previous trip but, since Expedition Everest was the ride we were the most excited about, we altered our plans. It had occurred to me that there had been a couple of times on our last trip that we’d wanted to ride Space Mountain, but the ride was temporarily shut down. I didn’t want to chance that happening on Sunday morning with EE and us not getting to ride it at all, so we decided we’d spend a few hours at AK on Thursday, then head over to Epcot since Epcot would be open later than AK.

We caught the bus over to AK, found the map and immediately headed for EE, passing a really long line for Finding Nemo The Musical and worrying that all the lines would be that long. Luckily, our worries were unfounded. We were on EE with only about a 10 minute wait and Tammy and Alex got to ride in the very front car. If you haven’t ridden EE yet, let me just tell you it is AWESOME! We loved it immediately and jumped right back into line to ride it again. Forward, backward, up, down…about the only thing it didn’t do was go upside down. It might be my new favorite ride and is, at least, my favorite ride in AK.

As we headed from EE over to Chester & Hester’s Din-o-Rama, we paused long enough to call my BIL back in Colorado and leave him a voicemail about how awesome EE was and how we were sweating in the heat. One of Alex’s favorite rides in AK is the Primeval Whirl, which is like a small roller coaster, but the car spins around. We rode it once, got right back on and as we were coming in to unload after the second time, there was no one waiting in line. The CM asked if we wanted to stay on and ride again, so we did, but that was enough for Tammy and me after that.

From there, we headed over to Kilimanjaro Safari, which we had missed on our last visit. We really enjoyed that one because it was like going to the zoo without all the walking and the animals weren’t all caged up. By the end, though, Alex was done and wanted to be at Epcot riding Test Track, which is one of his favorite rides. We headed for the buses and went right over to Epcot, making Test Track our first stop. Again, we were pleasantly surprised by how short the wait was, especially compared to the hour plus we had waited on our last trip. It was also the first time we’d ridden it in the daylight and we made it through the entire ride without any temporary shut downs. I even spotted a hidden mickey on one of the whiteboards in one of the “offices.”

We immediately grabbed FastPasses so that we could ride again later but, for some reason, the FastPass machine didn’t like Tammy’s KTTW card. We got a CM to help us and she ended up giving Tammy a “FastPass Key Card” in case her KTTW card didn’t work on any other rides.
044Fastpass.jpg

It wasn’t really a YOAMD promotion, just a typically helpful CM. From there, we headed over to Soarin’ stopping on the way at Club Cool, which used to be Ice Station Cool which was closed on our last trip. Of course the first thing I had everyone try was Beverly. Yeeps! Nasty! We tried all of the rest and found ones that we each liked and Alex decided he would have to get a frozen Blue Raspberry Fanta before the end of the night.

We got to Soarin’ and although it showed a 20 minute wait, we were on in probably closer to 10 minutes. From there, Alex was ready to head back to Test Track but, since we were so close, we convinced him to go on the new Nemo ride at the Living Seas. I love that they added the Nemo characters to the sign out front, especially the seagulls all saying “Mine? Mine? Mine?” I wish I had thought to take a video with the digital camera, but I wasn’t quite in all out photo taking mode yet. The Nemo ride was amusing, but it wasn’t anything we felt compelled to ride again. Turtle Talk with Crush was closed for renovations, which was disappointing, but we knew that before we left home.

As we walked out of the Living Seas we realized that it was raining. It wasn’t coming down too hard, though, so we decided to head over to Test Track. By the time we reached the first breezeway, it was coming down a lot harder, so we took a break there and waited for it to let up. It was probably only 10-15 minutes before it let up enough that we decided to head over to Spaceship Earth. By the time we got off, the rain had stopped, but Test Track still wasn’t open because they’d have to wait for it to dry out. We hadn’t eaten dinner, so we went over to the World Showcase, rode the Maelstrom, then got some food in Mexico. I don’t think Alex or I had any intention of walking around the World Showcase, since we had done it on our last trip, but Tammy wanted to check out the pastries over in France so we wound up going all the way around, only to have her change her mind about waiting in line for pastries.

When we got back, we headed over to Test Track only to find it still closed, so we decided that, since the next night was evening EMH at Epcot, we’d make sure we rode it again then. We got Alex his frozen Blue Raspberry Fanta in a cup with Mickey feet and ears, then headed for the bus. It had been a long day, but it was still pretty early, so I promised Alex we would go swimming when we got back to POFQ. Tammy was expecting our luggage not to be there, but we were pleased to find that it was. We were not pleased to find that one of our TSA-accessible locking luggage straps was missing, one of our suitcases had a big gouge in the side and one had the handle that you use to pull it along on its wheels broken clean off. I took pictures to document the damage but didn’t learn until too late that you have to report damage to the airline within 24 hours. Not only that, but the 10-year Samsonite warranty doesn’t cover damage due to misuse or abuse. I guess that is why they don’t do those commercials with the gorilla anymore.
082Luggage.jpg

It didn’t appear as though anything was missing or damaged, other than the luggage strap and the suitcases, so Alex and I went ahead and swam while Tammy sat by the pool and called her family. On our last visit, because there had been so much rain, we never got to use the pool, so we were excited to slide down the dragon’s tongue. Alex probably would have been happy to swim longer, but the day was taking its toll on Tammy and me so we headed back to the room after about an hour. We were in bed by 9:30 that night, which was actually 7:30 Colorado time, and we were all out pretty quickly.

Day Two, Friday, February 02

We were awakened between 5am and 6am on Friday morning by the sound of torrential rain outside our room and a few rumbles of thunder. I hoped that it was only a passing shower that sounded worse than it was.

No morning EMH on Friday, so we slept in (Alex later than the rest of us) then filled both mugs with coffee from the food court. The rain had let up by then but we turned on the TV to see that tornadoes had touched down in Lady Lake, which is only about 50 miles northwest of Disney World. There was some major devastation and at that point they weren’t even sure how many lives had been lost. We felt that a little rain on our day was probably nothing to complain about.

We headed over to MK and immediately in the direction of Tomorrowland. I was anxious to see if I could score 999,999 again on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin but, in three tries, couldn’t get above about 431,000. From there we headed to Space Mountain and basically walked right on three times in a row. We headed toward Fantasyland, skipping the teacups but riding the carousel. Of course we had to ride It’s a Small World; I told Alex that it is Florida state law that you must ride IASW when you are at WDW. After that, we hit our longest line of the day so far on Peter Pan’s Flight. Somehow we had missed riding it last time and I couldn’t even remember it from my last trip in 1988, so it was worth the 20-30 minutes. From there, we hit Haunted Mansion, which was another walk-on. On our way to Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, we got to see part of the show with Woody and Bullseye in Frontierland. Alex was interested in riding Splash Mountain this time, so we got FastPasses for BTMR, rode BTMR (another short wait, probably less than 20 minutes) with Alex and Tammy getting the front car again then went over to ride Splash Mountain. The wait was about 20 minutes and while we enjoyed it, none of us felt like riding through it again for that one big drop. We got in the FastPass line for BTMR and were on again in a few minutes.

We were getting hungry and set off in search of lunch, but got sidetracked by POTC. The newly added Jack Sparrows were so realistic compared to the older animatronics that I had to look really closely to see if it wasn’t a live CM. It was cool to see how he had been added without really changing the ride. We ended up getting Alex a pirate captain’s hat and pirate Mickey ears there then headed for the Columbia Harbour House where we had a very delicious and filling lunch. We decided to hit Space Mountain and Buzz once more each before heading back to POFQ for a brief rest. On our way down Main Street, we bought our “Where Dreams Come True” Mickey ears, with the flashing lights and took them over to get them personalized. Incidentally, personalization is no longer free but is still a good deal at $2 per item.

Epcot was having evening EMH that night, so after about an hour, we took the bus over there and got our wristbands right away. Of course the first ride we went to was Test Track, where the line was longer but still much better than the wait on our last trip. From there we headed to Soarin’ again with a quick stop at Club Cool only to find that they had already closed for the night. The wait at Soarin’ was longer than the previous night, but still only about 20 minutes. We met a couple from Louisiana who were friends with Peyton Manning’s mom, so they were excited for the upcoming Superbowl. There was also a family in front of them who noticed my NY Giants cap and turned to reveal that they were wearing them as well.

There really wasn’t anything else that we wanted to ride after that, so we browsed in a couple of shops while casually making our way back toward Test Track. We rode it one more time then decided that we had to leave if we were going to get over to Downtown Disney before we dropped in our tracks. There was a surprise for Alex at DTD that we’d managed to keep a secret from him so far.

As we left Epcot, we checked the bus destinations sign and didn’t find any going to DTD so we headed for the monorail. I mistakenly assumed that there would be more buses at the TTC so we took the monorail there. Because Epcot was the only park still open, there weren’t many buses to be found anywhere. It was Friday night so I figured there had to be buses headed to DTD from somewhere, so we took the resort monorail and got off at Poly. We asked the first CM we saw and he directed us to the bus stop where we caught a bus to the Downtown Disney Marketplace. We headed right for our destination, Once Upon a Toy, and led Alex to his surprise, the Build-Your-Own Lightsaber kiosk. It took a minute to sink in that he was going to get to put together a lightsaber using whatever pieces he liked the best. We all had a fun time sorting through the parts and trying them out. He decided to go with being a Jedi rather than a Sith and got a Jedi pin with the purchase for his lanyard.

047LightSaber.jpg

We made a quick pass through the Lego store before deciding we were starving and running out of steam. We grabbed a very late dinner at the Earl of Sandwich then headed back to POFQ. On the bus, Alex fell asleep leaning against Tammy, but never let go of his new lightsaber.

Jrsy - I love that picture of Alex in front of the build your own light saber bins. I bet he was so excited!!! I heard about the tornados and was wondering if it affected your weather at all. You had a very positive attitude with the rain. I probably would have been devastated but your prospective was so right on about a little rain compared to tornados and loosing lives. I love EE as well, that is my favorite ride at WDW (okay Pirates is my all time favorite, but EE comes in a close second!!!) Alex is such a thrill seeker!!! I am really enjoying your trip report....thanks so much for sharing your trip with us.

Jrsy, I am loving your report. It's nice to be able to take a quick break and read a bit about it.

I miss WDW!!!!

Day Three - Saturday, February 03

We slept in again on Saturday morning, even though there was morning EMH at MGM. Once we’d had our coffee and gotten ourselves ready, we headed over and went straight to Tower of Terror, first grabbing some FastPasses for it then riding it. From there, we shot over and rode Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, grabbed FPs for that on our way out, then came back to use our FPs at ToT. We got all the way through the FP line without passing anyone, so they didn’t even have to collect our FPs. We had a lot more time before we could use our RnR FPs than we had for the ToT ones, so we went over to ride Star Tours which Alex enjoyed even more now that he has seen all of the movies since our last visit. It was sprinkling a bit but not enough that we had to break out the ponchos, though we did see a lot of people wearing them. After Star Tours, we grabbed lunch at Pizza Planet and planned what to do next since we really hadn’t seen that much of MGM the last time we were there.

We started out by heading around by Al’s Toy Barn, where there was a large crowd of people taking pictures with and getting autographs from Woody and Buzz. Luckily, Alex was distracted by Buzz’s spaceship nearby and, as he headed toward it, realized that there were a couple of the army men right there with no one clamoring for their attention. He went over by them and they gave him a lot of personal interaction before anyone else came by.

065MGM.jpg

We also got a picture of him standing proudly by Buzz Lightyear’s spaceship before we moved on.

066MGM.jpg

We wandered down Streets of America and Commissary Lane on our way back to RnR. By the time we got to RnR, the Stand-By wait had grown substantially and we heard the typical griping about what was so special about us as we skipped on past everyone through the FP line. It is abundantly clear that there are a lot of people who don’t know anything about FPs and never bother to find out.

I love ToT, but RnR is definitely my favorite MGM ride. The wait was even longer when we got off, so we figured we were done over in that area for the day. We had decided that, since Alex is interested in animation and drawing, we would go see The Magic of Disney Animation. It was brief and pretty interesting, though it didn’t really “Wow” us that much. The great thing about having done it, though, was that at the very end, Alex got to meet Mr. Incredible and, again, there were no other kids around so he got a lot of personal interaction with him.

072MGM.jpg

We found some great artwork in the gift shop, though everything that I liked was way out of my price range. Tammy found a sketch of Piglet for her mom, though, and Alex found a “How to Draw” book of Monsters Inc. characters. We’d also picked up a similar book with Cars characters the previous day at MK.

Someone had recommended Muppets 3D on our last visit, but we hadn’t managed to make it so that was our next destination. It was entertaining in a nostalgic way for those of us who watched The Muppet Show as kids but it wasn’t the “must see” that we’d expected. From there we were considering doing the Backlot Tour but the wait for that was pretty long so we decided to head back to the resort for a break before spending the evening at MK.

While we were at POFQ, we took a quick pass through the gift shop. I hadn’t really found any souvenirs for myself by that point, other than my ears, which was okay; I just hadn’t really seen anything that I had to have. While browsing in the gift shop, I did find something that I really liked – a set of miniature Disney buses. I don’t know what it was about it, but I went ahead and got it. There are three buses and by the end of the trip we had ridden on all of them: the DME bus, the DCL bus and the bus that runs between the parks and the resorts. Tammy used her KTTW card to pay for the things we bought and I asked the CM checking us out why some of the CMs had towns or countries under their names and some had colleges. She explained that the college ones were doing internships through their schools.

We dropped off our purchases at our room and soon after were out the door to head back to MK. As soon as we got off the bus, Tammy realized she didn’t have her KTTW card. We almost jumped right back on the bus, assuming she’d just set it down in the room and hadn’t picked it up again and that she’d need one of our cards to open the door. First, though, we went over to guest services and she discovered that she was able to get a temporary card that would get her in the gate and work for FPs and whatnot. She was still stressed about what had happened to her card, but she felt better.

Tammy had been hankering for a funnel cake, so we first got FPs for Space Mountain, then headed over to Sleepy Hollow in Liberty Square. While she waited in line, Alex and I went to get him a Toll House cookie ice cream sandwich, which he had really taken a liking to. We could see that they were setting up for a parade, but we didn’t know which one since we typically don’t bother with them. After we finished our snacks, we went through Fantasyland back toward Space Mountain rather than risk running smack into the parade. We were surprised to have to wait in the FP line since we’d just blazed right through the Stand-By line the previous day, but it was Saturday night, after all. It was probably close to a half-hour wait in the FP line, which still beat the Stand-By line by a mile.

After SM, we went over to Buzz Lightyear’s SRS for one last shot at the high score. We’d only found one target that we knew for sure would give you 100,000 points each time you hit it, but the problem ended up being trying to hit it 10 times as you passed it. Alex rode by himself this time while Tammy and I rode together and she said she’d do whatever she could to make sure I got the high score. Well, we went through the room with the one big-score target that we knew about and neither of us had done very well. We were focusing on the upcoming targets when…the ride stopped! I spun us around and, if you can believe it, we were still able to hit the big-score target behind us. I fired the shots I needed, then rotated us slightly so that Tammy could do the same. We both ended up with scores of 999,999 and the ride wasn’t even over yet. As Tammy yelled to the people in the car behind us to tell them which target to aim for, I whipped out the camera and took two shots - one with flash and one without – just to make sure we could prove we’d hit the highest scores.

077Buzz.jpg

078Buzz.jpg

Feeling completely smug, we sat back and didn’t even need to fire another shot for the rest of the ride. If you look right over the center of the vehicle in the pictures, you can almost make out the target we were shooting at.

That about wrapped up everything we wanted to do at MK, so we headed toward Main Street only to run into the parade we had been trying to avoid earlier. I think it was the one called SpectroMagic, the one with all the lights. A nice CM pointed us toward a crossing that would get us toward the exit but during the brief opportunity to get across, we didn’t make it; the rope literally closed right in front of us. We figured it would only be another couple of minutes, but here is where my typical luck came into play. We stood there with Ursula circling back and forth in front of us, blocking our path, for probably close to ten minutes because just up ahead one of the floats had decided to park itself. After a little while, I little cart came zooming up alongside the parade and had to hook up to the stalled float to pull it further on. Finally, the rope was opened again and we dashed through to the other side.

We still needed a few postcards, so we ducked into a shop and picked up a few, then headed out of the park. We jumped on the bus and went back to POFQ where, once we were back in our room, we did not find Tammy’s KTTW card. She headed back over to the gift shop and, guess what, the CM there still had it sitting next to her register. Tammy said she was quite sheepish as she handed it back. By the time Tammy got back to the room, she was pretty worked up. If the CM had realized she still had the card and called our room, we could have had it back before we even headed to MK. She finally decided she needed to speak to someone about it and went to find a manager. With the preface that she didn’t necessarily want to get anyone in trouble, she just said that she was bothered by what had happened. The manager was unhappy, too, because their policy is not to hold onto the card, but to contact the front desk so they can return the card or cancel it and issue a new one. Tammy did get an apology from the manager and felt somewhat better to get it off her chest.

Since we’d be heading for the Wonder on Sunday, we spent the rest of the evening getting our luggage arranged so that it could be picked up the next morning while we were at AK.

Jrsy I am loving the trip report.

We are ready to go tomorrow around lunch time. I can hardly wait.

Heidi how is your mom and dad? Have you heard from them since they left?
