I have some Vera purses that I want to sell on Craigslist. I think I will lose too much in fees on ebay. Where do you meet your craigslist buyers...at the mall or something like that? And, do you have problems with people trying to bring your price down?

have to meet in a public crowded place. like a cafe or starbucks or even target --- daytime only.

and put FIRM on your price if you are. If you're not, discuss before meeting any wiggle room so you don't waste your time.. or theirs.

I do a LOT of CLing, buying and selling. I usually meet in a bank or gas station parking lot for portable items, but have met many people at my home or theirs for furniture and stuff like that. I always bring my BIG son or uncle, no problems at all yet.

Most of the time we have someone meet us at our house (or if we're buying, at their house). There have been a few times when I've met someone in a shopping center parking lot--usually if I knew the person I'd be dealing with was a male and my husband wasn't available.

Also, there have been a couple times where the person who wanted to buy lived very far from us, and we were able to come to an agreement to meet 1/2 way. We live in the very outer suburbs (maybe 45 minutes away) of a major city (Washington DC) so a lot of people assume that someone in our household must commute to DC and ask if we can meet them up there.
However, we actually don't commute that way, so usually we tell people that won't be possible. When we do agree to "meeting 1/2 way" we are usually way less willing to negotiate on price at all.

About people trying to talk the price down--yeah, I'd say about 1/2 the people have tried to negotiate when we've sold, and we almost always try to negotiate down when we buy. :)

Absolutely meet in a busy place where there are lots of people around if things go bad because you just never know these days. I would get a firm price before you meet and stick to it when you get there.

Don't wiffle-waffle on price in a parking lot...if they don't want it for the price you agreed on, get back in your car, and leave.

Make sure you bring the email where you agreed on price in case they try to back out on the price and you have documentation.

Don't be afraid to walk away if you get a bad feeling about them. Better to be safe than sorry.
