I'm currently looking for a teaching job in music and so far there hasn't been much in the way of openings. I do see a couple of jobs advertised on craigslist and was wondering how credible the website is, I have to admit I am a bit hesitant. Does anybody have any experience with craigslist for jobs, good or bad?

TIA.

I actually had an interview yesterday with a firm that had posted the job on Craigslist. I think that with anything, you have to be careful, and cautious. I had a phone interview prior to the face to face, and I did a drive by of the interview site the day before, just to scope it out, to make sure it was legit.

Debster is very right....but I have had more success with Craig's List than any other avenue. I have also had a few spam seekers. Those are usually easy to figure out.

Be aware there are A LOT of people applying to the same job (my area of job hunting has often more than 500 apps in a single day)

My DBF applied for a job on Craigslist and he got a reply back that pretty much said they already filled the position but they had another job available. He asked for more info and they sent a little bit and from that, it was obvious that it was a scam (working from home, having people send him checks so he can cash them, keep a certain percentage and send the rest back).

It's just difficult because when you're searching for a job and desperate for one, it may be easier to fall into a scam. Just be careful, and I'm sure you'll be okay.

I post job ads on Craigslist. Usually I get fabulous responses. A couple of weeks ago I posted 2 openings and got 150 responses for each within a weekend.

I agree with PP that you need to check out the company where you apply. Of course, I believe you should do that with any prospective employer.
