I just LOVE wired ribbons. Well, today I ran into the motherlode! A lady was selling a HUGE box of Christmas type ribbons at a yard sale. She told me to give her a price, I said $5. She took it!!

My son was totally confused. They're just RIBBONS, Ma! Well, I took him to Michael's today and showed him how much they cost and even Mr. Stoic's mouth dropped open! :earseek:

Now my dilemma.... I now have about 100 yards of the most beautiful ribbon and have NO CLUE what to do with it. I thought of draping my tree in the, making bows... WHAT ELSE???

Any ideas, crafty ones??
:teeth:

Are you making gift baskets for anyone? They are wonderful to wrap around either the handle or around the whole thing!

Robin,

I have NO ideas for you, I just had to tell you, I read the thread title as Weird Ribbon Projects, NOT Wired. I must be getting tired.

Good Luck! If I were craftily inclined, I would make bows for our tree.

Robin,

I personally love my tree draped in fabric and ribbon. You could do a large bow as your topper and ribbon trailing down from the top of the tree down. You could make bows of different sizes and use to give your tree more depth.

You also could make wreaths with your ribbon.

I also love pictures hung with ribbon so to speak. It adds just a nice touch.

Have fun playing. I am almost out of my stash from when I worked in the floral biz and I am bummed.

Forgot to add, When i wrap gifts for any occasion, I always use nice ribbon. It is just such a nice touch.

If you have gold, silver or whiite or a mixture of one or more, you could make an angel or a star.

Wow, thanks for the ideas, guys!

debster... WEIRD????? LOL!!:hyper:

aunt lissa: I do give out gift baskets but I could make a basket a day until 2007 and STILL have some left over. One of the ribbons was cut in 40 about 12" lengths!

torismom: I love ALL of your ideas, especially the tree ones! I looked for pictures on how to do a tree with ribbon on the net but didn't find any. I'll have to work it from memory!

Nutsy, I really would love to make those angels IF I knew HOW!! Do you have a link or a how to?

Thanks again everyone!

I do a really pretty thing with wired ribbon but I don't know if I can describe how to do it> Here goes!

take a peice about 2 foot long ( you can do any length)

tie one end into a knot

from the other end pull one of the wires out of the material until the ribbon twists aroung itself

It will look like a flower!

tie it around the first end and cut the excess wire

then you can slip it over a tree light bulb

they look pretty on a tree or wreath or garland!! ( Great hole filler on tree!)

You can put them on packages or whatever!!!

Monsal! I can see it perfectly from your description!

That would be a great project for the pieces! Thanks!

ok I will try and describe this project to the best of my ability~ also you have enough to make a whole craft table full of these and make some extra money. They are angels made from these ok here i go. Go to a craft store and get those wooden balls that people use for doll heads or snowman you know the ones that have the bottoms hollowed out? Then you go and get some doll hair the curly ones are very cute. Then you get two ribbons that go well together cut one strip for the body fold in half and tuck the ends into the hole in the head this is the body part of the angel~hot glue it in~ then you take a smaller piece of the other ribbon to make the wings you fold each end in to meet in the middle glue them to the back of the body of the angel. you need some gold or silver cording to make these into ornaments glue the cording onto the head into a loop so these will hang then you add the hair to cover up the cording and you paint on the face I just used permant marker and made two little eyes and a mouth that looked like it was singing. adorable I sold these three years ago at a craft sale for 4.oo a piece and I made over 100 of these little angels and sold them all. they are great for ornaments or on the out side of a package. not sure how wide your ribbon is but if its the kind joanns sell in the spools these will work great.

Whirlsy!! This is what I've been searching the internet for!!

Thanks for the directions. I promise I'll post the first one I make RIGHT! :bounce:

I used to work at a Micheals store that sold this ribbon, the Micheals web site often had craft ideas for ribbon, they still might. The Offray company makes ribbons, they may have ideas too. I'd also check the AC Moore site.

You got a steal! Sometimes just 1 ribbon spool sells for way above $5.00!

cool project:

There's also message boards at the site!

Robin, I may have a pattern around here somewhere amongst the many others I have. I'll have a look & let you know.

Actually you know, I was thinking of Michaels. I've found they have some good craft projects & with diff gradings too.

I've not been able to find those angels as yet:( I know I've seen them somewhere, but I just can't put my finger on them right now.

Another thing is Crafts 'n things magazines, they have some good projects in them.

I used to borrow them out from my local library & then photocopy the patterns I wanted.

I forgot to add that you buy that gold or silver garland~wired kind that has little stars hanging all around it and you put it in a circle for the halo and put on head. I loved making these and I bought all different kinds of hair to personalize them for family and friends. glad I could help. Have fun.
