Hello all,

I know this is very early, but I just finished my trip report from our May 2013 trip

A pinch of pixie dust + pinch of OCD = a fun trip for all!

and to fill the void that has left, decided to start this PTR. It is my first PTR so be nice. I love doing crafts, collecting strange data, and making spreadsheets, so you can expect to find all these wonderful things pop up on this report over the next 11 months. I am also still very much a Disney newbie so I would love suggestions and input.

Let's meet the cast. First there is me, Kate, formally a finance director for a non-profit, now a stay at home mom. Let's be honest, I'm a grown up geek. I love data, useless information, trivia. I constantly over prepare and crowds as well as most social situations scare me. Luckily I am married to another grown up geek, who I will refer to here as Mr. Incredible, works as an engineer by day, super dad by night. His social anxiety makes me look like an outgoing person, so we mostly stick to our little family of 3. Let's not be too misleading we do have friends. I am actually quite active in the community. My son and I do lots of mommy and me classes, story time at the library, and a number of playgroups. If you looked at my weekly schedule you would never guess I actually much prefer to hide inside and reorganize the pantry for the gagillionth time. I am adaptable like that. Mr. Incredible attends the necessary work related social functions, and was just invited to join the board of a non-profit, but other than that we really do like to spend our weekends playing at home.

Let's not forget the center of our lives. Our soon to be 3 year old who I will refer to here as "Goose" (short for silly goose :)).

Is that not the most adorable little boy! Goose has definitely inherited some of our quirkiness. He is a strangely orderly toddler and loves to sort and line up his toys. Right now his favorite things are cars, planes, trains, robots and letters. He didn't really know who Mickey was until our trip in May but has recently become quite attached to all things Mickey. His favorite movies are Cars, Finding Nemo and the Sound of Music. He is also rather obsessed with Dinosaur Train but how could you not be, it has dinosaurs and trains.

Aphakia awareness time :) As I post pictures of Goose, 3 things may stand out, he wears glasses, dark sunglasses and sometimes has an eye patch. At 6 months, after we noticed one of his eyes was not tracking well, 2 cataracts were found in his left eye. Pediatric cataracts are extremely rare, sometimes they are genetic, sometimes they are caused by other serious metabolic disorders, and sometimes there is no explanation. After lots of testing it was determined Goose falls in the last category. It is a lot harder to treat pediatric cataracts because the vision is still developing. Goose has had multiple surgeries and will need at least two more. With the help of a high powered contact lens and his glasses Goose can see pretty well. He is still too young to get a clear idea of just what his vision is, but he gets around just fine! Aphakia is the technical term for his condition. Aphakics have some interesting traits. Since they don't have a lens they can actually see into the uv spectrum, this also makes them very light sensitive. The vision of aphakics can range from almost normal, to legally blind. There are bilateral aphakics where both eyes are affected and unilateral aphakics like Goose where only one eye is effected. Oh and if you are like me you may think, but he has the one good eye! Apparently this creates a whole other set of challenges, since the brain is getting two different images it cannot reconcile. Luckily had some great doctors and we are very optimistic about his vision. I have read a lot of the make a wish stories on here and my heart just aches for those parents. We have really been blessed that Goose's struggles have been so treatable and non-life threatening.

The Where: AoA, cars

I will leave you there for now. This will most likely be my most long winded post. I hope you follow along, and help me with my trip!

Disney Box

Is it to early for a Disney craft? I think not. Especially since this falls less on the crafting category and more in the organization fun category.

When we returned from our first trip this May, I noticed we had a lot of Disney things we could use year after year. All this Disney stuff needed a home.

Thus the Disney box was born. I found a fun Chevron box at Walmart, and with a touch of foam sticker and a Mickey sticker, I shamelessly stole from my son's coloring book, I was able to make the outside of the box as magical as what it contained.

You may be wondering what is in the Disney box. Here is a compilation of some of the crafts I made for our last trip (I had help from Etsy).

Obviously the snack mix is gone, and the stroller license is pretty destroyed but everything else can be reused.

It also contains our Mickey ears, lanyards, Goose's special Disney sticker book and few other keep sakes.

I love walking in my closet and seeing this guy. It really makes me smile.

The Disney Binder

My husband had a bit of a rough day today, so I thought nothing would cheer him up more than having the new Disney binder to look through.

Last year our binder was pretty simple on the outside.

But it had a lot of great stuff on the inside. I know everyone does their Disney binder a little different. Shannon, one of my favorite Disney bloggers, @wdwprepschool.com has the most incredible custom Disney binder. I think she divides it by parks. I found her site after I had made my binder and had already done things a little differently.

Last year I had the following tabs.
*itinerary
*budgets
*reservations/confirmation #s
*menus
*maps
*crafts

To see my spreadsheets from last year's visit my trip report here

I won't have this year's spreadsheets ready until pricing and crowd calendars are released, but that doesn't mean I can't start filling the binder!

Today I printed menus for our planned ADRs. I was a little disappointed because last year I was able to print an actual pdf of the menus. This year it looks like they have changed that part of the website, so the menus print as a very long list. If anyone knows where I can find a PDF of the menus let me know!

I also moved my maps to the new binder. More on my favorite maps later.

This year's binder is a bit flashier.

I found the binder at Walmart and used stickers to embellish. It is a bit busier than I generally like, so I may do something different with the stickers but I like it fine for now.

I can't wait to finish filling it with all our Disney dreams!

Thanks for joining in!

I was right, looking at the new Disney binder cheered the husband right up! He even made a few of his meal selections. I am so glad he gets just as excited about all this as I do!

Welcome!

I just noticed several of my links were not working. They should all be fixed now. If anyone has a problem with them please let me know!

I followed you here from your trip report! We also just had our first trip in May with our first child. If I had known how amazing a) a vacation is and b) Disney World is, we would have done this a lot sooner!

I really love your Disney box and binder. I think a Walmart trip is in store for me and the little princess, so we can copy your genius and cute ideas.

We are going back in January, and I am so excited to plan even more this time. I am also OCD, but it is tempered with laziness, so I will probably never do a trip report! :rotfl:

Thanks Pinklemonade. Glad you like my projects! I would love to see what you come up with! I have seen some pretty fantastic Disney Binders. Did you see Shannon's binder at http://wdwprepschool.com/a-peek-inside-my-disney-world-binder-100-free-downloads/? It is pretty fantastic!

I love WDW prep school! I used a ton of info from her planning our April/May trip.

I went a little skimpy on my binder, because we had a printer that used so much expensive ink. But now we have a great one that uses so much less! And, now that we've turned into Disney nuts, it seems worth it.

I didn't see your cute binder at Wal-Mart, but I did see a dark pink one with white polka dots. I almost got it, but then decided to stick with what we have. I love our cover, I just need to put more effort into the insides!

Oh, I did copy you and get the chevron box, to be our Disney Trip Box! We are having fun sticking little things in it for our trip!

My kind of ptr!!! I love crafting!

I am so glad the box worked out! I love seeing ours in the closet! I would love to see your binder! Mine is a lot less expensive than Shannon's as well, especially last years! Maybe someday. I almost ordered a zazzle on this year but changed my mind at the last minute.

Also going May 2014 so I'm joining in!

Thanks for joining in! I have been MIA lately because we are waiting for Southwest to release flight info, and for EasyWDW to come out with its May crowd calendar to do much more planning.

We may shift our dates to a Sat to Sat or Sun to Sun.

We have also been busy with my son's start of K2 and other trips. We are going to Kansas City in November and Nashville in March! I am excited for both!

My husband and I pulled out the Disney binder this weekend and talked budgets so I hope to return to my Disney planning soon!
