This may seem a little strange, but we live on the west coast and we have no Cracker Barrels here. We really like eating at Cracker Barrel whenever we are around one. Last year we had a car at WDW for 3 days (long story) so we grabbed lunch on the drive to WDW and again on the day that we returned the car, both times at the location near Universal. This year we won't have a car. We are staying at AKV and it looks like there is Cracker Barrel a few miles away (on the 192, 7878 W Irlo Bronson Memorial Hwy). On googlemaps it looks like it is adjacent to a few hotels/timeshares/??. Has anyone been to this location? If we go we will have to take a taxi, and we are wondering if either of those adjacent hotels are likely to have a taxi so we can get back to AKV.

i have taken a taxi from POP to that Cracker Barrel. It costs about $15 to get there and $23 to get back if i recall..but it is soo worth it.. (We don't have CB's in Toronto either.. but when we go to the world and we drive, and eat at CB's in Erie PA, Atlanta, GA and first night dinner in Kissimee.)

The folks at CB's will call a cab for you as well (at least they did for me) no need to go to a hotel to look for one.

We live close to WDW and just ate at this Cracker Barrel on Saturday night. Always good food and service and I love to look around the gift shop after eating! I'm sure one of the cashiers would call a taxi for you after eating if needed.

Don't laugh, but no matter where my mom and I vacation, we always love to eat at the Cracker Barrel - we don't consider it a real vacation unless you do!

Oh, and the gift shop!

If you take Sherbert Road from AKV that Cracker Barrel is only about 3 miles away. Taxi should not charge too much for that short trip but never know. We have also eaten there and it was good. We often stay a night at the Clarian across the street but they do not have taxis that are there. Would have to call for one.

I like Cracker barrel well enough, especially the macaroni and cheese and corn muffins, but it IS NOT worth a $35 cab ride!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:

We always get a rental car when we go to WDW. We have CB's in NJ but none close to us so whenever we go on vacation and there is a CB, we always make a point to go because we love them! I know exactly where that CB is, have been going there for years with my BFF when we were single and now with my DH. I doubt a cab ride back and forth would cost you almost $40! I agree, I love CB, but it's not worth the money if the cab ride does cost that much!

Warning: and take this with a grain of salt because it might have been a bad visit. BUT, we went to that Cracker Barrel last trip and had one of the worst, most miserable meals of my entire life! It was just plain disgusting! My mom really wanted to go and I was fine with that. We were staying at Westgate Town Center just down the road (really close to AKL) and went there for lunch after a morning at AK. YUCK! The vegetables tasted like chemicals, I found a big rotten piece of potato in my mashed potatoes. Even my kids and husband pushed their food away. While they're not big eaters we were all hungry after having an early mornig ADR at Tusker House and it was about 2:00 and hadn't had a snack since breakfast. It was just so bad!

We stay at the Travelodge right across the street from that Cracker Barrel. We had to take a cab from the Boardwalk back to our hotel when our car broke down. It was $21 one way including tip. This was in early September so the prices are going to be about the same.

So, expect to pay about $40-$42 on top of what it's going to cost you for dinner. I might be cheaper to go over to the Dolphin and rent a car for the day. We didn't use the Dolphin but had Enterprise come and pick us up since we were stranded due to our car going TU and the for one day, the car cost $30. That's cheaper. Just another idea.

This makes me laugh. I'm in Louisiana, and we have Cracker Barrels all over the place. I definitely don't consider it a "vacation" restaurant.

But I can understand how it can be something you look forward to on your vacation. So, I say, splurge for the cab ride and go for it!

When on vacation, the $$$ just seem to roll out of the wallet. It was a great treat for us, and we also checked out Old Town and some of the tacky gift shops :)

It was a nice night..

eventamy, as I am always an optimist, at least you know your mashed potatoes were real (and not some chemical mix with red "skin flecks" in it...) shudder...

CB is the only place i can eat meatloaf (even homemade).. i always order meatloaf with mashed taters, mac and cheese and collard greens... drooll........ i think a trip to buffallo is in order after this thread :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking that.:rotfl::rotfl: We have Cracker Barrels all over the place here in Texas too. I just can't imagine going to all that trouble to eat at one. I guess it's what you are used to though. People in New England think nothing of all the great seafood restaurants that they take for granted whereas we'd kill to have the chance at really good seafood around here.:rotfl: Fulton's or even Cape May is a treat for us at WDW, whereas New Englanders regularly blast both restaurants.:rotfl: I've also read where people up North go ga ga over Sonic Drive Ins, whereas people around here avoid them like the plague unless it's getting close to pay day, they're broke, and need a cheap place to eat.:rotfl: I have two Sonics within a mile of my house and only stop in there to get their Route 44 drinks or an occasional foot long chili dog a couple times a year.

LOL! It certainly didn't taste real! I'm an educator and I'd rather have the wallpaper paste they serve at school that they call potatoes! They tasted like nothing I've ever had before! I wish you the best of luck and may the botulism gods stay away from you!

We too love Cracker Barrell! I think the portions are great, love their pecan pancakes and the 3 sides you get with your meal (love the dumplings).

I live in SC right off the interstate and CB is located about half a mile from my house. For us, it's that place we go to when we can't think of what else we'd rather do for dinner.

I'm with you. I have one 2 miles from my house. I've eaten there twice when someone else wanted to.:rotfl: Funny how different people's experiences are.

I use to work at Cracker Barrel! Its a great place with some serious value. I'd love to see the looks on foreigner's faces when they would try "American Homestyle" cooking. Some good, some bad. :lmao: AND imagine trying to explain what the heck a dumpling is in spanish...not an easy task :confused3
