CR vs YC

So I have an upcoming June trip which was originally suppose to take place at CR, however upon my nephew noticing the pool at the YC he has been wanting to stay there.

I went when I was much younger to the YC and can't remember much about the rooms but remember plenty about the pool and getting coffee milk shakes but I wonder what other peoples opinions are of the two, and which others would prefer.

Any suggestions or comments would be very appreciated!!

I would go with the Contemporary because they have the biggest Standard Rooms among the Deluxe Resorts, if you stay in the Tower you will be guaranteed to have a full size balcony and I personally I find Stormalong Bay to be very much overated.

The pool at YC really is an experience, especially if your nephew is a bit younger (I would say 7-10). They have a very well-themed slide area as well as a whirlpool (not hot tub, WHIRLPOOL!) and a lazy river. Depending on the time of day/crowd levels, they often leave the inner-tubes out for free use.

A BIG THING TO CONSIDER is which park you will visit more often. If you are EPCOT people, stay at YC! It will change your life. If you are more MK people, then stay at CR because you can hop the monorail.

Our grandchildren think StormAlongBay is better than the parks. They are 6 and 9.

June trip I would go with the YC or even the BC over the CR. The parks will be crowded and hot and I bet you will enjoy your breaks at the pool.

Which park will you be visiting most? MK? Then stay CR. HS and Epcot? Then stay YC/BC. It really gets down to the question of convenience. SAB is great and in June will be a welcome rest stop. But for the convenience of walking to MK I'd go CR.

Agree with this. You will want pool time in June and SAB really is a lot of fun.

My family has stayed at both and they each have pros and cons. CR is classic old-school Disney IMHO and kids really like the monorail zooming through the lobby. Their rooms are huge (by Disney standards anyway) and CR is the only resort from which you can walk to the MK (certainly a big plus after parades + fireworks when the lines for resort transportation are huge). Access to the monorail + other monorail resorts is nice too. However, their pool is fine, but nothing special IMHO.

YC has nice rooms but smaller than CR. You are also able to walk to DHS + Epcot and that is a huge perk. You also have access to Boardwalk which is a fun place to spend a little time out of the parks. SAB (the pool complex for YC + BC) is the best on property IMHO. However, it is very spread out and can become very crowded at peak times.

I think PPs advice about letting which park you'll frequent most help decide is right on target. MK = CR, DHS/Epcot = YC. Or, if you're planning on spending lots of down time swimming and relaxing, then I'd say YC. Neither has great options for CS dining but at YC you have easy access to Epcot and we always duck in at night to grab something to eat. And there is lots of cheap, greasy carnival type food (think kids' stuff i.e. hot dogs, burgers, fries, corndogs, etc) available from food vendors on the Boardwalk in the evenings.

Perhaps a split stay is in order?

Ahh!! So many things to consider!! If it was me picking I would pick CR, I like the rooms and the space. It was pretty much decided by my 6 yr old nephew that he wanted to go to CR until we visited the YC pool on our last day this past trip, then he was in heaven.

Our last stay was AKL and I absolutely loved the atmosphere and feel, but then again my dream vacation is to go to Africa

Split stays confuse me, I am not to certain of how they work. Is there a thread that explains them any better?

How late is Stormalong Bay open in the summer months?

We loved BC & SAB. Stayed there last Aug, and SAB was great in the warm months. We were there the last week of Aug and SAB closed around 10 or 11, depending on the day. After that you can go to the quiet pool, which also has a hot tub too.

Split stays are AWESOME!!! We did a split between BC (LOVED IT!!) and VWL last August and it was fantastic - the best of both worlds! Did DHS and EP (along with SAB of course) and had some great meals in the EP/BW area while at BC, then hopped over to VWL and did our MK days and enjoyed that resort, visited FW, etc. I HIGHLY recommend split stays!

Split stays are super easy if you are doing room and tickets (it gets tricky if you add the dining plan). You have to make two reservations, so the best thing to do is to either make two room-only reservations (and buy your tickets when you get there or from Undercover Tourist or another reputable ticket seller) or two room reservations with your LENGTH OF STAY tickets attached to your first reservation. Meaning - say you have 4 nights at YC followed by 4 nights at CR, buy 8 or 9 day park tickets with your YC reservation.

If you want the dining plan, the most cost affective way to do it, is add it to your first reservation along with your length of stay park tickets and skip the dining plan on your second reservation. If you do the dining plan with your second reservation, you will end up having to buy another set of park tickets and it's not cost effective at all!

On the day you transfer from YC to CR, have your stuff packed and ready to go in the morning and call bell services - they will transfer your luggage to CR. It will arrive by about 3 pm. Then simply go about your day! On our transfer day from BC to VWL, we packed a day bag so we could swim in SAB, then changed, had lunch and toured EP. We then caught the bus to WL and checked in - super easy!

If you are there enough nights - I would say at least 6 - I would do a split stay!!! We are hoping for BC/CR in August!

I agree with what everyone said, split stay between the two. Both are great resorts, and Stormalong Bay is definitely not overrated. It's a great place to relax in the hot summer afternoons!

Honestly, I've always thought split stays sounded like a pain. Perhaps just my own POV, but... That said, we stayed at the BC in July and SAB is heavenly. Its open until 11 in the summer, too, by the way. We're headed back in February and are staying at the Poly because of its proximity to MK, which I really wanted with my four and a half year old son. I had originally wanted to book CR, but decided against as I wanted to be someplace that felt like more of a full-fledged resort. My one complaint about the YC/BC area is the lack of CS and food that's available after 9 p.m.. We ended up with room service one night for that reason when, really, a quick CS meal would have been totally fine.

Either way I'm sure you'll have a great trip.

From someone who has stayed at both I don't think you will go wrong either way, although I'm a bit partial to the YC/BC area. However, as some have said previous to me, I think you should stay where you feel you will spending more time in the parks. If you are going to be at MK more then CR is probably the best place to be, but if you are going to be spending more days at Epcot and DHS then YC/BC is best option.

A split stay is nice as well, but you are then having to basically live out of your suitcase or unpack and pack and unpack again to transfer. Either way you go I think you'll be ok.

Oh...and there is no way that SAB is overrated. It can get crowded which sometimes cuts down on the experience, but is by far the best pool on property.
