My family recently spent seven magical nights (10/9 – 10/16) at the Contemporary Resort. Our tower room was on north corner of the 9th floor with a MK view; room 4525. If you add the first two digits of your room number, the sum is your floor number. Our impressions …

Check-in was quick, friendly, and efficient. We arrived on Saturday at 1:00 pm. Our room was available! DS9 and DD7 explored the arcade during check-in. The bell-hop arrived at our room before we did.

The arcade continued to entertain DS9 and DD7 throughout the week. It was most useful when DH and I were preparing to hit the parks and kids were anxious to leave. We sent them ahead and met in the arcade. I never felt that my children were unsafe in CR and was truly comfortable leaving them unattended for short periods of time.

Mousekeeping was reliable and adequate. Yes, we received 2 towel animals, dogs or bunnies, we could not tell. When we requested that water be swept off the porch, mousekeeping complied. On two occasions, our front door was not closed tightly after a mousekeeping visit. Our kids could push the door open from the outside. Fortunately, the oversight caused no problems.

The walk to MK is the major bonus of the CR. It is an easy ten-minute walk. If you take the monorail to MK, you must stop at the TTC, PR, and GF. My family preferred to walk because it was faster. When the evening is over at MK and droves of people are waiting in line to leave, the return walk to CR seems like a privilege. Transportation to the other parks is more time consuming. The monorail ride to Epcot took an average of 30 minutes but we always enjoy the monorail experience. Bus service to MGM and AK was infrequent at times. Consequently, we spent little time at these two parks. We drove to TL and BB. Driving from the CR to other resorts is easy. There are lots of signs. Parking at CR is plentiful.

DS9 and DD7 went swimming every afternoon. Both completely enjoyed the pools and I found the sunshine relaxing. They split their time evenly between the large pool with fountains and the circular pool on the lagoon. The large pool has a very attentive staff. The life guards enforce pool rules and watch the children closely. The circular pool has no life guards. I prefer the peacefulness of the circular pool. The local wildlife also prefers the peacefulness of the circular pool and sometimes left a mess. The CM’s periodically clean the mess. DH and I anticipated using the hot tub while the kids were swimming. Unlike other resorts, the hot rub is in the pool area allowing us to supervise the kids. However, I found the hot tub’s cleanliness in question. The water was murky with floaties. I opted to swim instead. I noticed people getting frozen drinks and beer from the pool bar.

I loved our room! Personally, I appreciated the colorful design and the hidden Mickey’s. The room was spacious. DH and I prefer the queen size beds in the deluxe resorts to the full size beds in the moderate resorts. The marble bathroom was luxurious although it needed a new shower head. The shower head was corroded with rust. We were supplied with lots of nice thick towels. The toilet is separated from the shower by a door. This ensured a bit of privacy. And, we had a dorm size refrigerator.

The balcony and its view are spectacular. The entire family enjoyed the fireworks almost every night. These moments were special. You may listen to the music on channel 20. There is lots of activity on Seven Seas Lagoon the entire day and evening. I enjoyed watching the mass exodus of people from MK on a nightly basis. And, Cinderella’s castle is beautiful 24/7. I did not notice any parking lot noise.

Speaking of noise, you can hear noise from the 4th floor concourse in your hotel room. Our room was above Chef Mickey’s. The music begins early and you can hear the clinking of silverware. I am an early riser so I was not disturbed. I also travel with a noise maker. On two mornings, we heard the 5:00 am alarm in a vacant room. When we told a CM, it was corrected. I enjoyed watching the action outside my room door. The whoosh of the monorails makes me smile.

The restaurants and gift shops at CR are quality. The sundries shop had medicines, magazines, necessities, liquor/beer/wine, newpapers (Orlando Sentinal, NY Times, and Wall Street Journal) etc. The prices were reasonable. We received a complimentary USA Today at our room door. The gift shops had clothes, jewelry, toys, housewares, and lots of candy. We dined at Chef Mickey’s and the Concourse Steakhouse. Both were delicious. We got coffee and cereal from the Food and Fun center; DD7 loved the hash browns. Food at the FFC was sparse late night due to the crowds. You can purchase beer and wine at the FFC. DS9 and DD7 attended a pin trading party at the pin kiosk on the 4th floor. And, I was easily able to surprise the kids with a small gift every day.

Pizza delivery from local Orlando pizzerias is no problem. However, you have to pick it up at the valet station.

High speed internet is $9.95 for 24 contiguous hours. Wireless is available and it will reach the pool area. I don’t know the cost. Our room phone had voice mail. Guest phones are located throughout the grounds making it easy to ring the room. However, it is expensive to call off property. DH called my cell and it cost $7.71 for two minutes.

I liked the theme of CR. It gives the sensation of staying in MK. There is art work displayed throughout the resort. I found it clean and the grounds well manicured. All CM’s were nice and friendly. DH and I celebrated our 10th anniversary. CR gave us a certificate and a Mickey/Minnie wedding photo to commemorate the event. We traveled to Disney on a package deal with Disney VISA. We calculated our room to be $187.50 per night. I understand that to be a bargain for a tower room. We charged all purchases to our resort card and were provided with a printout whenever we requested it. We may try a wing room on the next visit because it is quieter and closer to MK walkway and parking. The kids want to stay at an Epcot resort on our next visit so they can walk to Epcot and MGM.

To those of you planning a stay at CR, you’ve made the right choice.

ScarletFire- Thank you for your wonderful report. You really made me miss CR. My husband and I stayed there last year and we LOVED it. We were on the same floor as you and locatation. I just loved laying in bed and watching the castle change colors.

Great review. Sounds liek you had a great experience at CR. I'll be there in 11 days! I can't wait. Last time I stayed at the CR, I was young in 1976! Now I get to bring my kids to the wildly fun place.

Thanks so much for writing up your review! I read so many reviews and it seems as though the CR only gets mentioned in bad ones. We have enjoyed our stays there, in the garden wings and on the 12th floor.
