CPAP users a ?

DH started using a CPAP about 2 weeks ago. He says that his nose burns when he uses it. I just looked up some info on the web and see that there is a heated humidifier. What type of CPAP humidifier do you have heated/non heated and do you experience burning with either one? Thanks.

DH says his doesn't make his nose burn. He doesn't use the humidifier though his machine has one.

His nose may be drying out from the air pressure, especially if it's heated and not humidifed. The burning may be from that dryness. Heck - I wonder if it's even
'wind-burn'. Lol.

He may me to apply a little vaseline jelly or skin moisturizer to the inside of his nostrils before bedtime. Ok, I know that sounds so gross, but I would do just about anything to reduce the snoring that I used to do.

I only turn the heat/humidity on for the CPAP in the winter - otherwise it's nice cool air.

That's what I do in the winter as well for my CPAP machine and I only turn on the humidifier unit in the winter. I keep water in it and it keeps me from getting dry also.

I switched to the Mirage mask as well and it was the best thing ever! The nasil pillows are comfortable and the mask is easy and light to wear.

I started using mine years ago in the wintertime. I never knew there was a button that I was supposed to push to turn on the humidifier. I filled up the tank and the water would slowly go down. After about a month I would get nose bleeds all the time, but I would never describe the feeling I had as a burning.

My cpap, which I started about 2 weeks ago has a heated humidifier. I keep mine on as that's what they told me to do. I dont have any burning in my nose.

You know, mine doesn't have a humidifier. I simply use it. I've used it for 11 years, and its worked wonders.

Sometimes my nose does burn, but I've always assumed that this was my allergies (I also have sinusitis).

A new mask will usually cut under my nose, until I'm used to it, but that's all.

As a friendly respiratory therapist, the burning is caused from your nose being dryed out from the flow of the machine. If you add a humidifier to it that should help alot. Like some of the other posters have said ,in the summer you might not need to heat it but in the winter with the generally drier conditions you should heat it then.
And of course it will take some time to get used to it.

Thanks everyone. DH humidifier isn't heated. He's going to check into that. He does use the nasal pillows, not the mask.
