I don't see that DCL offers a whale watching tour out of Cozumel, does anyone know if there is enough time to do it on your own? Anyone have a tour group they've used and recommend (or even recommend avoiding)? Thanks!

I too am looking for better options for Cozumel. Plan on later in February. I’ve done most of what they have.

Do you mean whale sharks or whale (mammal) watching?

For whale watching, Cozumel is not a great location. Large whales are extraordinarily rare, although dolphins are common.

For whale sharks, the season is very short June - September. The area right around Cozumel is not as likely to have whale sharks, but they do migrate through the area north of Cancun near Isla Mujeres. There is a highly regulated marine reserve in that area.

A quick google search shows a couple of tour companies that will take you from Cozumel, but you have to catch the 7am ferry to Playa del Carmen, which will not be possible.

Definitely meant whale sharks, we have had friends do tours while there, but not from a cruise. What a bummer it doesn't look like the departure times work:(

If we are just looking for a beach to relax on in Cozumel, what do you suggest?

Thanks!

Cozumel:
Nachi Cocum ( my favorite) Very quiet and relaxed. Nice beach and pool with plenty of loungers and shade, food and all drinks (alcohol too) included. Okay off-beach snorkeling (fee if you do not have your own). No water park. About $60 per person, kids are less http://www.cozumelnachicocom.com/

Mr. Sanchos (my second favorite) Fun and active. Nice beach and pool area, not as shady near the beach as Nachi Cocum. Food and all drinks included. Ocean floating park for an additional $12 per person. Add-ons like jet skis, parasailing and horseback riding are available. Okay off-beach snorkeling (fee if you do not have your own) About $55 per person, kids are less.http://www.mrsanchos.com/

Playa Mia (excellent reviews from friends) Fun and active, not as shady near beach as Nachi Cocum. Food and all drinks included. Pools, fresh-water water park and slides and an ocean floating park included. Also, non-motorized boats like kayaks and water bikes. Add-ons like jet skis and parasailing. Okay off-beach snorkeling (fee if you do not have your own) About $60 person, including all the kids. https://www.playamia.com/

Glad someone gave you an answer. 9 cruises and not once did we sit on or visit a beach unless you count Dunn River Falls. And that was an amazing time.

We are looking for an experience somewhat similar to Castaway Key, but on a DCL cruise departing from New Orleans.

Thanks so much!

Looking at the Nachi Comum website, I see that transportation is not included.

What are the details for transportation?

Do we just get off and grab a taxi? How hard is it to get transportation back to the ship? What time should we head back? Anything else we should be aware of?

Taxis are readily available at both the dock and Nachi Cocum. We always aim to return to the ship one hour before the all aboard time. three years ago I think it was $10 to go from the dock to Nachi Cocum.
