OK

we have all heard stories of people going to mexico and drinking water and having to use the bathroom many, many times:rolleyes:

is this a concern in cozumel? one of the excursions i want to book includes an open bar for beer and rum punch- would the punch be safe to drink or should i just stick to beverages i bring with me

thanks:sunny:

On our 2003 Western cruise, I experienced this "challenge" first hand. I had two frozen drinks at the beach. I never thought about the ice being made from local water, and I had a problem that night. I would say only drink bottled water, only use ice if you see it come out of a bag, like you buy at the store, or have drinks that don't in any way involve the local water!

On our recent cruise we had friends on an excursion at Cozumel. It included some beverages, and the guide made a big deal of showing them that it was bottled water and processed ice! So it isn't just a rumor. Just be cautious and you'll be safe.

We visited Paradise Beach in Cozumel on the 10/9 Western. I am one of those people with a sensitive stomach and so I was concerned about eating and drinking in Cozumel. I had heard great things about Paradise beach both on the DIS and Cruise Critics. We had a great time, drank frozen drinks, ate their delicious food and no one got ill. I think as long as you stick to the places recommended by others both here and other boards you will probably do fine.

I'd have to say, be cautious! I don't normally have stomach problems, but I do in Mexico. I've been to Cozumel twice and had "issues" both times. Drink beer and/or soda without ice :). Otherise, take Immodium with you, and the entire time I travel I chew Pepto tablets whenever I think of it. Also, ginger is supposed to sooth your tummy... you could take that starting a few days before you go, until a few days after you get back.

Good luck!

Hi

The first time I went to Cozumel I had the same concern, so I ask the bartender at the HardRock about the water. He told my DH and me that all the restaunts and bars were required to ship in bottle water and ice, now I'm not saying they all do but there suppose to.So I would just be careful..

I never gave it a second thought, I wonder if it is safe to imbibe?
