My husband and I just returned from the 5/10 Western and cannot stop talking about what a wonderful time we had. One of the most wonderful and memorable events was the jeep tour on Cozumel. We spent about 5 hours in our little caravan (seven or so) of jeeps. We met our guides, Edwardo and Andre, at the ship and the fun began immediately. These two guys were a whole lot of fun and full of energy. We walked to where the vehicles were waiting for us and divided up into four per vehicle. My husband and I traveled with a father and son-in-law from California and we switched drivers half way through the tour. We stopped at the Pee-Pee Station on the way to the remote East side of the island. There we hit the sand dunes and hugged the beautiful tourquoise shoreline for what seemed like hours. After a bit we stopped at a Mayan temple ruin and Andre did an excellent job of explaining the signifigance of the ruin to the Mayan culture. We also had refreshing bottled water at the stop. We traveled on through more sand, curves, twists, bumps (TONS OF GIGGLES AND FUN~~) until we arrived at a sandy beach lined with umbrellas for us to rest under on straw mats. We played in the crystal clear surf for about 30 minutes until our very own fresh mexican lunch of fajitas, guacamole, quesadillas and fresh fruit and salsa was ready. We dined to our hearts content under our umbrellas and then played in the water for another 30 minutes or so. Then we followed the same path back along the shore and back onto the main street back into town.

It was awesome and we would highly recommend this tour to anyone wanting to experience the beauty of Cozumel!

We were part of the Jeep Safari Tour as well and have to agree that this excursion was awesome!

Did you do this excursion through Disney or on your own?

It pains me to read this! Only because we had this tour booked for our cruise (this Saturday) and after discussing the cost, decided against it. We have me, my DH, our DD and her friend. It would have cost $336 for the 4 of us for it and we determined it was too costly.

I'm glad you had a good time and if it were just two of us, we might spring for it, but with 4, it's pushing our budget.

Thanks for sharing, though.

Trampslady: Was this excursion done through Disney or another company? We've booked with http://www.cozumel.travelnotes.cc/tours/jeep.html for our upcoming cruise on the Voyager in August and have heard nothing but rave reviews. Thanks for posting

FOJMO: I understand your pain (we are a family of 5) but decided that it would be worth the $$ -- especially since this is one excursion that our entire family has agreed upon. My brother is going along with us as his dw, dd and our Mom are going to Tulum that day. We figured that we could wait until next year when we're on the Disney but this excursion just sounded like so much fun!

We booked through Disney direct. The tour guides were absolutely awesome. I'm sorry, I'm not sure what the name of the company was.

Thanks for the report! Though we are not cruising until April 10, 2004, we have already decide on doing this excursion! Sounds like great fun!!

Oh I so agree that this trip was worth the money! We went in December and had Federico and Nain as our guides. They were hilarious! Their favorite line was: "If you liked the trip, our names are Federico and Nain, if you did not like the trip so much, our names are Antonio Banderas and Enriques Iglesias."
But, I have to admit some of those jeeps were a bit ratty, a miracle they made it back and forth!:)

My ds grumbled the whole morning because we were "making" him go on this excursion. I will tell you that the smile did not leave his face the entire day! He had a blast and we are planning on doing the Western next March for his birthday and will do this excursion again!

I have to agree with everyone...this excursion is the best! We did it on our first Western, and I have full details in the trip report on my website, but it was such a blast. Neither hubby nor I drive stick shift, so we pair up with a mother and daughter from California, and the daughter did all the driving. We enjoyed taking photos at the ruin and had so much fun at the beach. The water was extremely wavy, but the guides kept us within a certain area and made sure that everyone stayed safe. I don't remember their names, but they were real characters. The lunch was quite delicious too. Some people hadn't realized there was beach time and hadn't worn their swimwear. I felt really sorry for them. On our last Western, we almost did this again but opted for the horseback riding (that is awesome too). Next week, we don't have anything booked...we're going to play it by ear.
