Is it better to go to Paradise Beach on our own in Cozumel (we are a family of 5 - including 3 kids - 12, 10, 8) or do the Disney excursion to Play Sol Beach for approximately $240. Which beach is nicer? Is it easy enough to get our own transportation to Paradise Beach? We do not speak Spanish.

I've only been to Paradise, so I can't compare the two. Paradise was GREAT, and certainly much cheaper.

It was very easy to get a taxi both there and back, and we speak only "Sesame Street" Spanish. My three children, age 13, 10 and 4 really enjoyed all the free things (the climbing "iceberg," snorkel gear and sea kayaks). My husband and I enjoyed the hammocks, guacamole and beverages. We were never in any way hassled to buy more.

My two older children also LOVED the "bungee trampoline." There was an extra charge for this ($10?) but I think it was one of the "highest highlights" of our trip.

Have a wonderful trip! We can't wait to go back...

We did playa de sol through DCL in Oct '03. Had a wonderful time. Our dd's were 7 & 9 at the time. They loved the pool most of all. It was a really expensive trip. We all enjoyed ourselves. There was thing we didn't like, that was having to wait until the bus was full before we could head back to the ship. I suppose we could have found a taxi, but we didn't want to "pay" for something when we had already paid for the bus. It was a pretty beach and like I stated, the kids loved the pool.

I am thinking that we will try PB this trip. If it is easy to get to from the pier. I am like you, I don't speak any spanish (took four years in college and don't remember any).

Please do remember that no matter where you go in Cozumel, people are looking for tips. We had to borrow some tip money from fellow DISers because we forgot!! There are even tip baskets in the bathrooms.

We did Paradise Beach, and found it to be a very affordable day--$26 in total cab fare, $50 for food and beverages for all of us. We didn't notice anything, other than our waiter who expected a tip.

They have started charging a $5 per person fee to use the trampoline, iceberg, etc. still very reasonably priced.

On our 11/6 cruise, we also went to PB and had a great time. It was 13.00 one way for 4 people and the taxis were waiting at the entrance to PB to take us back to the pier. There was a gentleman who asked us how many and where were we going and he called the taxi over for us, couldn't have been any easier!

I assume they all (the Beach, taxi drivers, restaurants, tips, etc...) accept American Dollars? Or do we have to exchange for Pesos?

Does no one ever go to Chankanaab (sp)?????? I hear this park is beautiful....... Anyone who has gone.....is Chankanaab as nice as I have heard?
