I spoke to one of the founders of Chrysalis Group about several of the additional questions that had been put forth. Here is what she had to say:
People wishing to write checks may do so. Checks drawn on United States banks are fine. They should be made out to "Cozumel Chrysalis Group". Checks of ANY amount are most welcome and go DIRECTLY to the needs of the children. The organization is completely volunteer, so the money gets spent on the children's educational needs, as well as the supplies required to attend and maintain good performance in school all year round.
The donations made are unfortunately NOT tax deductible in the USA because they are a MEXICAN not-for-profit.
Though they thank those wishing to mail goods to them, it is costly to mail to Cozumel from the US and they also must pay a hefty import duty tax on their end to receive the goods. Unfortunately this just does not work out well for them. Often packages have arrived incomplete, having been opened somewhere along the way, as well.
Any other specific questions that may come up in the process of families trying to identify ways to help, may be addressed, at anytime, to Sally Hurwitch or Alicia at cozkids@hotmail.com
They thank EVERYONE for their interest and outpouring of compassion toward these children who have the desire to attend school, as well as above average abilities, but unfortunately have never had the chance or the opportunity present itself to them or their families before, due to poverty and often the necessity of the family needing them to work so every family member can survive.
Every single persons donation will make a DIRECT impact on these children. These kids will ultimately have more than one path to choose from in life. With the hands on visits and support of Chrysalis Group (every step of the way for both the students and their families) success is ensured in both the children's academic endeavors and in broadening the choices that lay ahead of them in life. Their hearts are not only filled with a new found pride, but their minds are shown the limitless possibilities that lay ahead of them.
Thanks to all of you! God bless!
Sincerely,
Liz Brody
