My brother and sister in law would like to go on a sunset horseback ride on the beach while in Cozumel, Does any one know who does this?

Rae has an excellent experience horseback riding on the Western - send her a PM - I'm sure she would be happy to share with you.

We did the Disney horseback riding in Cozumel. We didn't ride on the beach, but it was very enjoyable. We rode past some real and recreated ruins, and the guide shared some stories about Mayan history. The ride was advertised as all walking, but we did have a couple of opportunities to canter. Everyone in our group was comfortable on horseback, so maybe it would be all walking if some people were nervous. The horses were in good shape and very well trained. After our ride, one of the wranglers put on a perforamance with his two trick horses. One of them even laid day while everyone sat on him and took photos! All in all, it was a great experience.

You can go through Nikki's Beach Rides. We rode with her on a reccomendation from Rae on our Halloween trip and had an excellent time. However I think it was in Grand Cayman. I know that she does sunset beach rides though. Our ride lasted about 1.5 hours on horse, then the ride out to and back from her stables.

DD & I also did the DCL excursion Barb mentioned and thoroughly enjoyed it.

One word of note - if you are not a regular rider please do not tell the wranglers you are! DD rides all the time and has weekly lessons. She insisted I take a refresher and I was glad I did. While well trained and cared for these are not the nose to tail stable horses you often find at American riding stables.

Unfortuntaley we had several people in our group that claimed more experience than they actually had - there are a variety of horses they assign you to based on your riding experience. Once out on the trail it became agonizingly apparent that there was a problem!

Beyond that I highly recommend it.

A sunset ride would have to be at Cozumel though because you depart Grand Cayman about 5 pm.

Deb, you made me chuckle, as I used to work at a riding stable when I was a teen, and we got people claiming to be "experts" all the time. Usually we'd put them on the slowest plugs in the barn! It was great fun to watch them struggle, and if they complained, we jump up on the horse, which would inevitably act like an angel for us. We'd say, "This horse is just fine for an experienced rider, and that's what you said you are!"
I have lots of experience (owned one of my horses since 1981...he's nearly 27 now), but I can be timid with hard-mouthed horses because I am so used to my own. I explained that to the wranglers and they did a great job matching me up with a soft-mouthed, obedient horse.
Take Deb's advice and be honest. Your ride will be much more enjoyable if you are matched to a suitable horse.

LOL Barb!

If your winter has been anything like ours anything that brings a bit of cheer is a good thing.

DD would love a job like that (she'll be 14 in March and spends as many hours at the stable as she can). Right now she is just glad to be back on horseback. She was thrown in mid-November and ended up with a double break of her left humerus (not humorous at all!) just below the shoulder joint.
