Coyote or wolf?

I know nothing about NJ, tbh. Other than it's called The Garden State.

It is most likely a coyote. Wolves tend to stay with their packs and coyote usually hunt alone.

This development is 25 yrs old, and we haven't seen a coyote before. We have seen a couple of foxes, (or maybe the same one), and herds of deer at some times. We had mallards build a nest a few years ago in a bush right next to our driveway. As far as I know, there haven't been any attacks on livestock, cats, etc., since it would have made the local newspaper.

o wow..ive never seen coyotes in jersey--ive had foxes in my backyard and that is it!

Our neighbors French poodle was killed by a coyote. Please be careful if you have small dogs or cats.

Raccoons can be just as dangerous though. DH and I lived in an apt complex that backed up to a wooded area when we were first married. We were getting ready to leave on our honeymoon trip to WDW and DH went to take the trash out to the dumpster. The bag had broken,so he was going to take the entire can.

As he went to dump the trash into the dumpster, he saw a raccoon inside growling and making dangerous-looking movements at him,so he dropped the can and hightailed it back to the apt. I asked him where the can was and I just about died when he told me a raccoon made him drop it in the dumpster.

My poor cat got tangled up with a raccoon once and nearly died. The raccoon took a couple of big bites out of Frank and he almost lost his tail. He had to stay at the vets for several days before we could bring him home.

Was my cat. He died a few years back. He had the bluest eyes, so we called him Francis Albert Cat.
